Interesting comment about having a breathing coach. Humans have two nervous systems, one is the "fight or flight" response (sympathetic) and one is when relaxed (parasympathetic) , and you can control your autonomic nervous system through breathing. By doing whats called a phycological sigh when you're in panic mode (that means taking a double inhale and a slow exhale) you can fool your nervous system and turn off the "fight or flight" response and be able to focus and relax in a high pressure situations. The SAS, etc have been doing this for years with whats called box breathing. Thats why you can see all the players taking a big breath and exhale before they strike, so they are all calm and focused before taking the penalties and thus able to think clearly and not be overwhelmed by fear.

Rodri is in a totally different league to Rice. Rice isn't good enough technically. Mainoo can do everything Rice should be able to do.

Watkins scored because he, as a striker, was where a striker should be. Harry constantly coming back and looking for the ball does 2 things, it takes the pressure of the defence and it means that when we do get the ball, it cannot go forward until Kane gets back where he should be. Unless you can make him stay advanced it is better to leave him on the sidelines. You must stretch Spain to make life difficult for them

I dont get the people saying spain miles ahead. Spain are a decent team but nothing i see scares me. The beat croatia (croatia drew with albania and italy) a poor croatia side Beat italy 1-0. Swiss beat italy 2-0. A poor italy team. Beat albania 1-0. Meh Into the knockouts Beat georgia 4-1. Best performance. Solid win but georgia were tired after beating portugal but a good win. Beat germans with last minute winner in ET. Germans werent great. Drew with swiss, could have lost to hungary, scraped past denmark with a kind ref. Good win but not amazing. Beat a poor french team by a single goal. French didnt even top group and have struggled all tournament. England have played lesser names but solid teams. Beat serbia. Draw with slovenia who took portugal to pens Draw with Denmark that were equals to germany. Beat slovakia that had beaten belgium Beat swiss that drew with germany and almost topped group, comfortably beat italy 2-0. Beat holland who were also an average team. Spain have had a better tournament but they are far from invincibles. They beat big names that have played poorly. England havent set the world alight but have momentum and tournament experience. I make england slight favourites.

Merson is a good listen. Different from most pundits because he always sees the bigger picture. He tends to get over excited and makes some ott calls but in general he sees things as an ex professional with some experience at the top level, things that we can't see. When I listen to Shearer, Carragher, Rio, Murphy and most of these characters, half of the time they overreact, very short sighted and repeat what the media are saying or what they think the public want to hear. So much rubbish they come out with but maybe most armchair fans actually want dumbed down views and don't want to hear interesting things.

People still supporting Southgate are being blinded by the results. We have got this far through sheer luck and having the easiest draw ever, not from good football, tactics and picking the right players. This is the brutal truth of it. He has the most talented generation of players we have had for decades at his disposal at a time when the other nations arent the same force and power they used to be. Despite this and also playing low ranked teams all through the tournament, the football they have produced has been utterly woeful and we have had to rely on late goals and individual pieces of brilliance to save us. Just not acceptable. Would this same group of players play at this standard under Pep Guardiola? I don't want to hear about how organised Switzerland are etc, the teams England have played have low rankings for a reason. People getting excited about the first 45 mins against Holland. How many actual chances did we create? We scored only a pen that shouldn't have been awarded in the first place. It was on ok first half performance but nothing more. And then they were shite in the second half. Of course I want us to win the final but this luck just can't last especially playing against a quality team. Rodri is better at the 8 and the 6 than Declan Rice, plays better killer balls and scores timely goals of high technical quality, they are not comparable players, I think it will show on Sunday, in my opinion Mainoo Wharton and Bellingham are the English Midfielder with the best technical abilities and game awareness

Merse you what? That list of players better than Kane? None of them have been better than him. Kane is the best English player ever. If he had a more marketable face it would be obvious. He has been as good a striker as Shearer and as good a number 10 as Lampard, all in one player, for about a decade. You might disagree, but surely we don't put Gazza ahead of him. Mercurial talent of course, but how do we judge him against Kane when his numbers are nowhere near as good and he ditched so much of his career being wrecked? ok, if you compare Gazza's best season with Kane's best, maybe, but we're talking whole careers.

Spain players all learn to play the same system as kids. After spain 2010 and barcelona 09 all there kids learn to play the pressing game after pep started doing it first. Energy zapping trying to win the ball back. Man utd 09 had a world class team and jush couldn't get the ball back

Answer: The equation isn't balanced. The correct solution is AR - JG + GH = WC ; GS - HK + OW = EC. Southgate won't solve the problem he sticks at GS + HK = 0 Sorry about this lads. Kane is England's greatest striker. Jimmy Greaves was England's greatest striker. Alf Ramsey was willing to drop his best striker to make the team better. Southgate hasn't got the nuts to drop Kane to make the team better. But that isn't the whole of the problem. Trippier playing left back is not helping us. The ball has to go back when he gets it. He hasn't got a left foot. We need to play Gordon and Saka at wing back. Watkins up front. Speed on the wings and down the centre is our only hope of winning. We need to pin their wingers back. We need a speed threat through the middle to pin Rodri back. And when Williams and Lamal do get the ball we need to keep them on the outside. Don't let them cut inside. Make them play the crosses.

Southgate is far from ever being an elite manager, he's managing some elite level players in England but not very well - England are where they are because of the good players getting us through and it's nothing to do with Southgate's tactical genius - I wouldn't take Southgate at a league 2 club let alone another country, if Southgate's name come up for another country they'll all probably laugh and say no thanks.
