Did you know that there are at least four different ways to use the -ing form of verbs in English?
1. All Progressive Tenses
2. GERUNDS
- ING FORM - WHEN THE VERB IS THE SUBJECT
- ING FORM - WHEN THE VERB IS THE OBJECT
- ING FORM - AFTER PREPOSITIONS
- ING FORM- AS AN ADJECTIVE
To add ing to a word, look at the letter before the last letter. Is it a vowel or a consonant?
1. If it is a consonant, add ing
2. When you add ing to a verb that ends in e, you need to remove the e and add ing.
3. When you add ing to a verb that ends in ie, you need to change the ie to y and then add ing
4. Verbs ending in ee, just add ing
5. If it is single vowel, double the last letter, the add ING
6. Verbs ending in L double the L
7. Verbs ending in c add king
8. If there are two vowels before the last letter, just add ing
9. This rule doesn’t work for words ending with W X or Y
