Articles (”a”, “an”, “the”, or no article) can be very confusing to English learners. The most confusing thing is when NOT to include an article. In this English grammar class, I will show you 9 situations in which an article should be left out. For example, why is (Ø) French food delicious, while THE French love delicious food? Test your understanding with the quiz: www.engvid.com/when-not-to-us...

Important note: languages DO get "the" if they have the word "language" after it. For example "Russian" vs "the russian language" or "English" vs "the english language"

If nationality is the same as the language, it does have “the” before nationality (e.g. The Russian speak Russian and The Thai speak Thai. Compare w/o “the” before nationality; Australians speak English as British as well. ** no article before language

@Anh Nguyễn Ngọc Duy because you have mentioned in your sentense that the test was yesterday, so it will be either " I can't believe I failed the test"( provided that you have mentioned which test you are talking about in earlier sentence) or "I can't believe I failed yesterday's test."

Hello, TeacherI read the following text in a school English book but I think the definite article must not be used with the uncountable noun 'creativity': (last sentence) "Failure is not the end. Rather, it may be the first step to tge world of success. This is proven by the experiences of many geniuses abd inventors. Although failure interefered with their way in the early days of their lives, it didn't discourage them from reaching the top. Effort and creativity make their success stories a mark in the human creativity." Thanks for your guidance. Best regards Antoine Ghannoum

Referring to a family last name should we say the Clinton, or simply Clinton with zero article? Also, could you explain when we use zero article, definite and indefinite article before the surname plus title of an individual: Mr. Smith (zero article), the Mr. Smith, a Mr. Smith?

Hello Adam, thank you for this beautiful lesson. I did all the questions good without the last. I thought to put "no article" but I changed my mind because I thought that is a specific alcohol "that is not served in a sealed bottle". So for this reason I don't put "no article " because I understand this situation like something specific and not in general. May you help me to understand better?
