Rufinka/ Rufie was a real person .She lived around Smolyan in a small village called Poprelka like 150 years ago. That is how old the song is. Her grave is there . The song is sad. Rufinka was very Ill and she died young. The movies name is ' The end of the song/ Краят на песента". In a few words the movie is about a man who loved a woman, but was accused of robbery that he didn't do, so he run away. After two years he came back to only find that the woman he loved has passed away. He was ambushed while singing this song and shot. Good job. Keep reacting to Bulgarian folklore. 👍🙂

The man can just stay and listen the song. Nobody gonna recognize him. But he fill so sad, the song is so close to his heart, he decides to reveal himself, even he knew that this is the end for him. When he went out of village, he send the horse away, to protect animal from the bullets.

Also in the movie, the character is a sheppard and loves to be free and let his voice roam the mountain. After he was accused of robbery, he had to hide in the forest and couldn'tsing, because they would find him. So in this moment, knowing his love is dead, he has nothing to lose anymore and lets his voice be free one last time. Also the character is a very good and honest man in the beginning, but when they were trying to catch him they kinda killed his mother, so he went on a vendetta and after that became a bandit and everyone wanted him dead. So when you see that guy in the tavern rub his chin, that is because he recognised him.

You were on point. It is a sad song, it is a movie, and it is about resistance. Bulgaria was under Ottoman rule for 500 years, during which our very culture was on the brink of extinction. I encourage you to look into it further. Other people have commented about who Rufinka was, but nobody mentioned the resistance thing so I felt obliged to.

"The End of the Song" is a 1971 Bulgarian featured film (drama) directed by Milen Nikolov, written by Nikolay Haitov. The operator is Ivaylo Trenchev. It is based on the story "Ibram Ali" by Nikolai Haitov. The music in the film is composed by Boris Karadimchev. In the beginning of twentieth century, the story tells of Ibryam Ali and the beautiful Naime who love each other. Although the girl's father is against their love, they decide to get married. Ali was accused of stealing from the rich Deli Mehmed, with whom he was working, and was arrested. The thief turned out to be Deli Mehmed's son, but he did not drop his accusation against Ali. Ali escapes arrest and with enmity and a fight for revenge flare up between him and Deli Mehmed. Deli Mehmed loses his mind and hangs himself, and Ali is forced to flee. Two years later, when he returns to his home village, he realizes that Neime has died. Ali was killed in an ambush while singing his favorite song about Rufinka.

The Bulgarian folklore is unique in itself and has no analogue. It is incredibly ancient, preserved and inherited from the ancient populations of the Balkan Peninsula (thracians, pelasgians etc) And it is not a coincidence that major film productions such as Troy (2004) 300 and many other movies (on historical themes) are voiced with Bulgarian folk music :) Soundtracks like “3200 years ago” (Troy) “Hectors death” (Troy) “Message to the queen” 300 I cordially congratulate you for appreciating and spreading the Bulgarian culture! the bagpipe guy is a legend actually.Its Bai Dafo Trendafilov,who died in 2010 ,91 years old,one of our best players,with an incredible career playin those pipes for more than 8 decades(since childhood).This movie was made around the time I was born-1971.

That was the favorite song of my grand grandmother. Rhodope song sang from male typically. It brings tears to us Rhodope people 👌😭. It means that the girl called Rofinka is going to die and she is taking good by with her mother. She is saying to tell the mother that she can't take anything with her and she want to give all she have to a girl from the village, even her beloved. She is crying and says that the spring is coming and everything starts to come up from the ground and sand, but she is going down there in the ground. The girl is real and she lived in a Rhodope village, there's is a flower called after her and it's found only in this one village. On the way to this place the hight mountains keeps Rufinka for ever in peace. 🥀😊 In a fact my grandfather sings this song in original even better.

Amazing song! My favourite, if I have to pick one of many! In short, the song is about a maiden who is fallen ill. Her name is Rofinka. The song tells the story of Rofinka who is in her death bed and her mother is asking her if she is scared and sorry that she is dying so young. But the answer of Ronfinka is that she isn’t scared, nor sorry about her fate. The only thing she is sorry about is that she couldn’t marry but she was preparing her dowry her entire life and now it will stay in her chests getting mouldy, while she is lying under the ground, suppressed by soil. It’s worth mentioning that Rofinka is a real person and her grave is in Rhodope Mountains. The video you are watching is a scene from the 1971 film “Krayat na pesenta” (The end of the song). What he says after he stops singing is: “Everyone to take himself a bottle! I am paying!”

There’s even a story about it. It’s called Ibram Ali and it’s by Nikolai Haitov. Every time when I hear the song I recall the story and vice verse. The scenarist of the movie Nikolai Haitov with the composer Petar Stupel 3 months have listened to how people sing "Rufinkinata" (the song) from around the Rodopi Mountain. And from all the melodies and voices they heard the scenarist wrote this song specialy for Vasil Mihailov. PS. Listen to Valya Balkanska please. You will be shocked. Rufinka is pomak song.The name of the girl is Rufie from a village called Poprelka.The story in the film resembles the real life story.Real Rufinka was engaged to be married to Ali Kichukov,but she unfortunayely died and he lived till 100 years of age.The guy in the film is Ibrahim Ali bulgarian pomak,honest young man who was wrongly accused of a crime that he didn't commit. After long run he returned but his love passed away.He went to the pub and started singing in the ,people recognised him and informed the authorities and they shot him.The grave of Rufie is still some where in the village of Poprelka.Go and find it ,it will be a great experience for you.Pomaks are ethnic Bulgarians who were forced to accept Islam hundreds years ago. They are Muslims with Muslim names but speak Bulgarian.

He was accused of a crime he didn't commit, so he ran away and became an outlaw. This was his favourite song, and "He sang it like no one else". That's how they recognized him. The movie End of the song/Краят на песента is based on the story Ibryam Ali/Ибрям Али, written by Nikolay Haitov/Николай Хайтов in his book (a compilation of different stories) Wild stories/Диви разкази. Regarding what he says mid-song, when he shouts, it's "Wine! Everybody grab a bottle! I'm paying".

When they couldn't arrest him, they arrested his mother, they tortured her to give up her son, but she didn't and eventually she died. That drove Ibryam over the edge. So Ibryam snuck into the man's house, but didn't hurt him. Nobody knows how he scared him, but he was deeply traumatised and hung himself a month later.

I am a traditional rodope bagpipe player and the song tells for a girl named rufinka that was ill and near the death. So near her wasnt anybody to be with her. Only her mother was there and she was giving her a cup of water while she was asking rufinka what is more important for her, her clothes or her world. So rufinka answered that her clothes arent important, but her world is the most important thing to her. Sadly she said that spring has came and everything is coming from the dirt, but he will go soon into the dirt.

Thank you bro! Respect for you from Bulgaria. Rufinka is a bulgarian folklor song. The movie names "Kapitan Petko voivoda" Vasil Mihailov is playing grand personality in the movie. The movie is about the wars and fighters for Bulgarian freedom from turkish empire before 140 years ago, after 500 years of turkish slavery. Rufinka is the favourite song of capt. Petko and that is just he show himself to all. It hapens after we win our freedom of genocide but the turkish agentory still work here a lot. And he knew that they will kill him and they did at the end. Thats way he touch his donkey to go away. This is very very powerful song and movie for any Bulgarian person so ... big respect to you my friend. ❤ And the pipes are biological real pipes like Schotland's but ouers are the original version because they are made of lamb. My respect for this video! To the autor I can onlu say - man, you touch a bilion part of one antient culture! This is a nation, that came from very far east, the chanise historyans says that the Great Wall of Chine is build, because of US! Every single song in that culture has a story to tell, if there is someone to listten. Its scene from the movie "End of the song". The main character Ali (Vasil Mihaylov) is wrongfully accused for a crime and becomes an outlaw. He leaves for many years and returns to his village after a tiresome run. He is known for his distinctive voice. Rufinka is his favorite song. So he couldn't keep it and starts singing in the pub. The pub owner recognizes him from his voice and calls the cops. Afterwards he senses the ambush and faces his end, singing. The scene with the horse represents life and death. Past and present. He leaves the horse in order not to get killed.

This is from a movie called "The end of a song" based on the short story "Ibryam Ali", a tale from the world of the Bulgarian-Muslim community in the Rhodopy mountain (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhodope_Mountains). You can read the whole thing here www.kroraina.com/litera/n_hajtov4.html Basically it is about a Bandit who hides from society but travels back to his village incognito for some reason (you can find it in the tale). Unfortunately ,he is recognised for his good singing by the police force (look at 6:00 , It is the sheriff looking at him) and consequently shot dead in the end. The song itself is about a mother speaking to her daughter (Roufinka is the name of the daugher) who is dying from sickness. Here is the translation: Roufinka was laying sick on a mountain high No one was next to her except for her old mother She was giving her water This she told her: -Roufinka, dear daugher Do you remember your dowry? Rofinka is sick of lying down is a Bulgarian folk song, which embodies the sad history of the Bulgarian people who were under Ottoman rule. The scene with the men singing in the pub is a scene from the movie - The End of the Song A 1971 film. The man who stands up on his own and starts singing, drowning out everyone else, is a haidutin - a voivode (a Bulgarian hero who fights against the cruelty and slavery of the Ottoman Empire). This scene shows how the bartender recognizes him and sends his apprentice to hand him over to the Ottomans. Leaving the village, our hero, feeling that they are waiting for him, releases his horse so as not to get hurt with it.

The clip you saw is from a movie, but the song is also an actual real traditional folk song. The actual lyrics of the song explained, in short: A very sick woman is lying in the wild. Her only companion is her elderly mother, who is giving her sips of water to drink. The woman is too ill and won't make it. She says her goodbyes.

It's a very touching song. This is part of a movie. Vasil is a forester. He wouldn't allow any one to cut trees in the forest even Teams sent by goverment. So He kills the one harming the forest. Thus the police is After him and He is hiding in the woods. After some time He visits the village incognito and goes to the pub with a friend. Rufinka is his favorite song and Vasil is not able to resist signing along when the band plays it. He stands up and order wine for every one. Thus his presence is revealed. So in the morning He is shut by police on the road when going back to the mountains.

This song is traditional! You don't have such words in your language to translate it ... A very heavy song! The man is tired of repression, do you know why he is on a donkey, because under Turkish slavery that lasted more than 500 years he was not allowed to ride a horse. Rufinka , lying sick and grieving on a tall mountain, with no one beside her, Except an old mother, that was quenching (drowning) her thirst and to Rufinka was whispering and asking, "Rufinka, my daughter Is it your vail ,or your wedding tressure ? Is it your Relatives that you are mourning?" "My dearest old mother, It’s not about any of that ! But is the soil (mother earth) that I am mourning, just like the spring in full bloom, everything is springing out of the earth (soil), just to return back to it." roughly translate One of the most important thing in the song is that the mother is not specificly entitled as Rofinka's actual mother [but her birth mother non the less (if you catch my point for the meening and deepnes of the song)], and the drowning part is equaly important !! Actualy to say it straight the song is telling the tail of the first mother (her dead specificly)that came out of the mother earth and the Biblical events of the old testament ... Pritty much all of bulgarian songs have secret meaning wich was the only way in those periods to keep the Christian faith coz of the Catholics and Ottomanic Empire ... And the main charactar of the movie is singing to his mother - Bulgarian soil for witch he is spilling his blood
