My experience was a bit different they pointed toward pointed to the words of Romeo and Juliet and broke down the window scene. My god he basically told her to fuck him before her Hyman rots and srivels into her body. Then they got into the symbolism in lord of the flies on how with the correlation of piggies treatment to the civilized structure of the island until the point piggy died and the entire place went to anarchy and tribalistic. I will say I then moved and had the teachers doing shallow and light grazing of topics in books such as rapes, genocide, mutilation, pedophilia, and suicide. So I went from having to do detailed descriptions and translations of the symbolic meaning and ideas protested in a book and making 6-7 paged essays to a paragraph about the pros and cons of characters actions or predictions of the next chapter.
