The hardest parts
of doing anything often occur at the start.
And when things go wrong,
that first step is usually the most difficult,
as there are many things going on.
Many emotions occur
even before that first step is taken.
Resisting the urge to hold back
and procrastinate.
To avoid finding excuses not to attempt
the thing you want to do.
That long journey always begins with the first steps.
The other difficult part of doing
something is keeping it up.
Finding the motivation to carry on.
Especially when things are going wrong.
It is a sad fact that most human pursuits fail
not because of a bad result,
but because hope was given up on.
The project was
abandoned before it even got started.
But I know what you're thinking.
What does this have to do with learning English?
Well, I will tell you...
The basic principles of doing something are the same.
Whether it is setting up a new business,
creating a work of art, or learning a new subject,
they all rely on the same principles of perseverance.
Take action while the idea is fresh.
That's what I do.
Give yourself time to do the thing in question.
Don't rush.
Do not put too much pressure on yourself.
But most important of all,
remember that difficulties will occur.
Moving forward sometimes
means taking steps back.
Whether you are setting up a new business
or learning a new skill.
It always takes time and patience.
The difficult moments often make way for
enlightenment.
Nothing is easy.
If it was, we would all be living in golden palaces.
My closing message is simple.
Perseverance always wins.
Quitting is not an option.
You can do it.
Deep down, you know you can.
I know you can.
And remember...
‘the world is your oyster’.
