Hi! I'm 69 years ild & have severe osteoarthritis. I'm a decent net player ( but needs lots if improvement). Need help in COURT POSITIONING, strokes I should work on, so I can get to the balls most opponents drive to me because of my present disability. Thank you!

Enjoy the brand/videos. Went to the site get an EP t-shirt but didn't see any. Signed up to be an ambassador since I meet new players almost every day. But now it says my account is blocked even before I got start using it. I'm ok with not having an ambassador link but still need the shirt. Can you help me? Drop/send a new link or can you create a video for supporters of the channel. Thanks

Love your valuable and so useful videos!! Thanks a bunch! So, any tips on how not to hit the net when returning up close or mid court? still trying to figure that one out. I started to lift the ball instead of smashing it, but it makes it too easy for the opponent. I hear just "meet" the ball, don't smash it, but I have seen experienced players, who are super tall and not smashing the ball, hit the net!! Pheeeew, that net is something alright! Haha

When I’m at the kitchen line and use my backhand, my paddle faces to the right. Could be a bone change when I broke my wrist. Anyway, because the paddle is not straight, my shot is out of bounds to the right if someone gives me a hard shot at the line. Anyway to correct this?

Another great video. I found that to improve my reaction time to speed ups and my success in returning was to (a) not focus on my partner's shot and path of the ball (only use peripheral vision) and (b) intensely focus on the opponent's paddle face as the ball makes contact. By doing these things (along with all the other instructions in this video) I can return with pressure all but super excellent shots from my opponents. When I used to watch the path of the ball from my partner's paddle I couldn't make the adjustment at point of contact because it was happening too fast.

Thanks for sharing your tip! Focusing on the opponent's paddle instead of the ball's path is a clever move. It's cool how this small shift made such a big difference in your reaction time and shot returns. Your strategy of using peripheral vision for the ball and zeroing in on the paddle at contact is something more people should try. Appreciate you dropping this insight-it's a game-changer!

I was taught to always get to the kitchen line as soon as possible so I have been doing this for years. But now that I'm older my reaction time is not as good, When I get in a volley war at the kitchen I miss a lot of hard shots because I just don't have enough time to react. A friend of mind suggested I back off about three feet from the line to give myself more time. I recently started doing it and found that it really helped.

This is a good video. A lot of coaches will tell somebody just to do something for the sake of doing it because it works. You’re saying do something and then explaining why it works. Deeper learning can be had and application can now take place making it easier to remember. Very nice! Also great mental tip to stay prepared. Like a batter in baseball. They always need to expect a pitcher to go fastball. If the pitcher goes off speed then It’s much easier to adjust. If the batter expects off speed and the pitcher goes fastball, it’s getting blown by the batter every time.

Thank you for the video! I have a comment on your discussion of continental grip. I came to realization that the preferred grip may be also determined by one's wrist flexibility. I started with continental grip, it worked very well on my backhand, but I could not gain confidence in forehand volleys. My coach, Steve Paranto, advised me to switch to Eastern grip (and pointed out that several pros in our club have been moving to Eastern as well). This indeed fixed my forehand volleys without taking too much from backhand volleys. So, maybe, a more accurate way of putting it would be, continental grip should be a starting point, one should try and see how it works. If limitation is seen on one or the other side, adjust the grip. This applies even more to senior players. Some people just cannot be successful with continental.
@EnhancePickleball
@EnhancePickleball 6 ай бұрын
Absolutely, your point is spot on! It's really about what works best for you. The continental grip is a great starting line, but as you've found, switching to an Eastern grip helped your forehand volleys shine. It’s all about experimenting and finding that sweet spot, especially as personal flexibility and style come into play. Your coach Steve Paranto gave you solid advice, and it's cool to hear how adjusting your grip made such a difference. This definitely serves as a reminder that there's no strict rule for everyone, and sometimes, especially for senior players, tweaking things a bit can lead to better results. Thanks for sharing your experience!

How would you explain JW Johnson's ready position?
@EnhancePickleball
@EnhancePickleball 6 ай бұрын
JW Johnson is seriously talented and has spent a ton of time perfecting his technique on the court, which lets him rock a unique ready position. But for most of us, especially if you're not hitting that 5.0 level yet, the stance I showed in the video is gonna be your best bet. It's all about building a strong base for your game! Once you get to that crazy high level, you can start experimenting a bit more.
@lobocnc
@lobocnc 6 ай бұрын
@@EnhancePickleball Biomechanically, what JW Johnson does makes a lot of sense in that (counter to what might seem obvious), the fastest way to move your paddle from ready position to striking is rarely by travelling the shortest distance (the dynamics of your arm very complicated). I suspect a lot of the conventional wisdom comes from tennis, a sport that doesn't require the lightning fast readjustments that you get in a pickleball hands battle. But as you say, that's a lot for a beginner to digest.

You demonstrate a high quality in your understanding, and you instruct from a solid foundation, which I find rare today. I've only responded once on KZfaq, and that was to another of your caliber, but in tennis. 54 years ago, after playing with me for 30 minutes, the number one tennis player told me I was the best player he ever hit with. I've won national doubles tournaments in racquetball and paddleball. 74 now, playing pickleball and ping pong every day. I want to encourage you to continue playing. That's been my secret over the years... I only focus on playing. You can hit thousands of balls every session if you play with others who also want to keep the ball in play. Otherwise, I'd rather hit against a concrete wall (which I have logged thousands of hours against). Play till exhaustion, short break, rinse and repeat. Watch Cara Black volleys on wall to demonstrate. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/lcmEm7R6zay3ip8.html
