Good luck on learning English! There's an app called HelloTalk where you can learn it with a native English speaker who wants to learn Japanese. Another app called Clubhouse might be useful for conversation practice. I'm active on both, wanting to learn Japanese as an English speaker, so feel free to hit me up as well!

Living alone is a bless. Although the apartment is small. It's got a bed and a bathroom and a washing machine and a kitchen. And it functions well. You can even have sunshine sometimes. Japan is like a heaven for a poor introvert like me. It makes me happy just thinking about the life there. Even though the working environment might be a little harsher than other places. It's a good place for a transition.

Man, this makes me want a tiny apartment like that even more now lol. 430-ish USD/month isn't a horrible price for a roof over your head, and i just personally LOVE tiny living areas like this, as opposd to massive areas. Super cozy and you basically have everything nearly within an arms length.

I briefly taught English in Yokohama back in 2011. I lived in Ofuna Kamakura. My apartment had the exact same layout. I also loved walking around and getting lost in my neighbourhood. I vaguely remember living quite close to the shiseido cosmetics factory. Sadly, my experience ended prematurely due to the 2011 tsunami and earthquake. Your video brought back so many fond memories. Thank you!

Same here! Love it so much! It makes me sad when I see shorts or reels where creators are complaining about when they only had 5-10 orders or followers but now have hundreds of orders or over 100k followers or something! It super bugs me bc I appreciate every single person who supports me as a creator so it’s super refreshing and nice to see! ♥️

Random rant about learning Japanese: Okay from 2023 January 13th to 27th I'm going to see how much Japanese I can learn in two weeks, the sound familiarity from listening to a lot of Japanese should help, while also to learn to draw from not being able to draw a straight line since I have negative talent for drawing, so by March I can start writing my girl shogi manga, while aiming to reach EGF 1st dan blackbelt in igo from my current brownbelt level by May, around when the Women's Korean Baduk League begins and I have to start reporting on it on Lifein19x19, and during those four weeks I'll do the same for Korean and Chinese simultaneously, also hoping to be able to understand both by 2023 September when the Women's Korean Baduk League finishes. From then I will start compiling a universal Korean-Japanese-Chinese Dictionary and Universal Dictionary of European Language, all by December while simultaneously training to be a 5th dan blackbelt in 囲碁 for the Britgo London Open During 2023 December 28th to 31st. Then I'll get a job. Also from then would be time to start the universal comparative religion project compiling translations of the primary texts of all the worlds major religions into a single book.

The tiny size has more to do with being in the Tokyo area than it does with being in Japan. When I first moved to Japan I had to stay way out in Chiba and it was at least a 20-minute train ride from the heart of Tokyo. Anyway I was staying in a 3 bedroom house with roommates and the house was not much different than a 3-bedroom house in the States and was more than spacious enough. Still, I did not stay there long as I always knew I wanted to be right in the heart of the city. And getting something in a prime location in my price range of course meant that it would be very tiny. For me it was worth the trade-off however as I was able to ride my bike to Shibuya or even Roppongi fairly easily. By the way, apartment prices in Tokyo are not only determined by the area you are in but also by how far away your apartment is from the nearest train station. If it’s less than a 5-minute walk that is good and this will be reflected in the rent. If its so far away however that you need to ride a bike just to get to the station before catching your train then this is bad and you can get a much better price on that place. The point is, if you don’t mind having to take a 20 0r 30-minute ride into the city center and you don’t mind being far from the station you can get a lot of space for a very reasonable price.

Your apartment is functional and cute. The light that comes in is just gorgeous. There is so much that can be done with small spaces. For example, putting away things in furniture that has doors. Another way is by using the walls for displaying books, plants and special “trinkets.” I love your space! I am glad you are happy there!

Your apartment is so clean, organized, and sparsely filled I am envious. How long have you lived in Japan and what is your occupation if you don't mind me asking? I also live in Yokohama, and have for a couple years, though in total I've lived in Japan for going on 8 years now. I've definitely accumulated quite a bit of stuff, not so much, but it's difficult to get rid of things and keep things sparse and tidy like you have. (I'm an English teacher for primarily elementary school students).

For a small flat this place actually seems quite large and the bed has a good amount of headspace. Nicely kitted out. Lovely idea with the blue lights. Thanks for showing us round 😊

That's much more spacious than a lot of the tiny Japanese apartments i've seen recently.

In regards to the kitchen cabinet, you could use strong suction hooks to hang some things on the inside of the door. storing vertically would help as many storage bloggers note that one. Also, there might be things available that you can insert to add storage. When in Daiso and such, know the store and spend time looking at the merchandise with an eye (elsewhere too) towards buying those things that will improve your storage and going vertical where possible also helps. Such living space in the US would be efficiency or the larger but still small studio. For commentators here, densely populated countries don't have much space so this is the compromise. Because they are in the ring of fire in regards to earthquakes, Japan should have strict building codes for structural integrity. The tubs are meant for soaking but they are made to fit the people who use them. Having lived in Europe, I found that European clothes would fit my American body so as a foreigner, you have to adapt as she has done or as anyone of us would living in your country. Always remember, people who post are showing how they do live and it should never be about how they should live.

Hi! Thanks for the suggestions. I'll have to search for those items and try to go more vertical like you said!

@@EnimsLifeinJapan When you browse the aisles, better to see what is available and decide if it will work in your residence. Know your shelf measurements, etc. and bring a tape measure if you need to. I never go into second hand places with an agenda but if I see something that works and I want it, I do buy it. Think too beyond the present in how you can live better with the things you have in regards on how to store them. Web surfing can also give you ideas or show products that will work. Clutter is not a luxury most can have. Only you can decide what works/not and only you can make it happen. Have fun on the journey getting there.
