Major 7 (sus4) and Minor 7 (sus4) are confusing to me. For the major - is there a dominant 7 (sus4) ? For the minor - as played the minor 3rd is taken out - so how is it minor?

You are right about the ambiguity. There is a dom7sus4, as well as a maj7sus4. You are also right that the minor is sketchy, as you can abandon the minor note entirely but if you riff off the notes you will see why.
