I hate to be that person but TECHNICALLY, corsets are not a symbol of oppression. Rather, they are undergarments that help support, sort of like a bra, but more comfortable because it was strategically designed for each woman, so it could balance out the weight. They also helped give the right shape that they wanted for their outer clothing. Also, pretty much no one tight laced their corset because it was considered vain to do so.

I was thinking the same thing. We Muslims have to wear the abaya or the hijab, in its entirety, it's up to us whether or not we want to but just like the corset, its a symbol of protection rather, and in countries where Muslim women are to be highly respected it is required for them to dress appropriately. I wouldn't say it's to protect us physically but to protect us from the gaze of wandering dangerous men.

@Dracos Wife yeah they just said that people wouldn’t normally tight lace their corsets. I don’t know if it’s technically an opinion, more of a misconception from actresses saying they are painful when really the corsets aren’t fitted properly.

And I know a lot of people don’t agree, but I’m glad Enola and Tewksbury didn’t kiss in the movie. I think that would of been really sweet and cute in the movie, but Millie didn’t want to kiss him so she shouldn’t have to kiss him because she feel obligated to because of her fans
