The trail actually begins in Chester County. It retraces the former Pennsylvania Railroad Atglen and Susquehanna Branch. The line was built in 1906 and abandoned in 1989, with tracks being removed in 1990. The distinctive PRR Catenary Poles were replaced with traditional utility style monopoles in 2011, as they still serve as part of Amtrak's 25Hz Traction System.
