So Close. First all car manufactures here in the US have agreed to switched to Tesla's NACS charging port, it's a smaller more sturdy connector that is much better. They need to update their charger with the new connector or offer a version with that connector. Second, I keep my house in Self Consumption mode, I was really hoping the charger would take only excess power from the PV and charge my Tesla with that instead of using my battery in this mode. I see that in Full Backup mode it does this but then I am not utilizing the $60k in batteries I purchased to make sure I don't pull from the grid overnight. My car uses 12 kW of power when charging which can drain my batteries pretty quick, was really hoping I could just always keep it plugged in and if there is an extra 3-5 kW of power after the house needs it would just redirect it to my car instead of the grid since my utility company doesn't pay much for excess power (I have to send back 3x what I pull just to even out). Make these changes and I would defiantly order one even though they are almost twice the cost of Tesla's charger.

Joe, you helped me over the phone with a few questions a few months ago and I still follow your KZfaq posts. I have a recommendation for a video for those that find that they have excess solar power production during certain times of the year, (like now). Although it is easy to just say I am happy with simply selling power back to the grid, there must be other creative ways in which to utilize excess power that some of us haven't thought about yet.

I am more interested in charging the EV during the day and having it available for backup at night if there is a grid outage. I only have 20kWh of storage at this time. I plan to add 20 kWh but having the car battery for backup power would give me more peace of mind.

when will they have bidirectional and what vehicles will it work with? I have an Enphase system and I'm waiting on this before purchasing an EV

Why is the plug so short? This requires the NEMA plug to be mounted upside down or sideways. Many of us have RVs and would like to share the plug. Outdoor weather covers don't allow upside down mounting. Sideways seems not to code.

Need some advice: I'm going to have a Solar Grid only Enphase based system installed in the next several months and was thinking to get a NEMA 14-50R plug installed as part of that install for future proofing for an EV likely to be purchased in the next couple of years. I wonder if this "future proofing" is a good idea or not given that I may be looking for at battery backup in the future as well and wonder whether I should just wait until later to get the 240v plug installed? I ask this question in large part because a comment was made in the video that made it sound like there were different ways that the charging plug could be wired into my home power system (e.g., back to the main panel or via the Enphase equipment (combiner or smart switch)). Is my understanding correct? I'd hate to install a 240v plug and only to later realize that it needs to be wired into a different component to fully integrate it into my Solar system and find I will have to change what I've done. And would "integration" with my system require that it be wired through the combiner or the smart switch? Obviously if I don't have Battery backup I won't have the Enphase Smart Switch. Also will be interested in two way charging when that comes to fruition (assuming my future EV would support 2 way charging). Thx!

Considering charger likely to outlast vehicle, seems utterly silly to get anything new today other than NACS connector with adapter for current vehicle. (Like @charlesholcomb21 mentioned) basically this product is ‘a day late, and a dollar short’ I’m not considering any changer other than one with native NACS, likely upcoming new Emporia model. Intelligent charging (either not overloading a circuit if sharing, or to detect excess solar seems) would be a necessary ’plus’ model feature for any charger not competing on price. And bi-directional being a desirable bonus feature. This EnPhase charger seems competitive for early 2022 … but not a month away from 2024 … when L2 J1772 chargers are being blown out at fire sale prices
