Great Big Story

Great Big Story

7 жыл бұрын

Cremona, Italy, is a city with a very special (and very musical) history. It’s a city of master craftsmen who specialize in one thing-violins. Since the mid-16th century, Cremona has lived and breathed violins. The northern Italian city is credited as the birthplace of the string instrument and remains home to Stradivari, maker of some of the world’s most coveted and expensive violins. To this day, more than 100 traditional violin makers carry on that legacy.
This Great Big Story was inspired by Genesis.

Except it was super awkward when they mirrored some of the playing, so it looked like they were playing violin backwards.

I got to play an Amati just a couple of months ago at a concert at my library. It was amazing, I've never heard such a beautiful instrument in real life before, nor have I ever held something worth more than my house in my hand before! They didn't want to tell me the price, but it was worth somewhere between 0.5 and 1 million USD.... I actually got handed down a Carlo Micelli from 1921 that my grandpa bought used for school. Lately these have been getting very valuable as well and it's apparently worth way more than a student violin now... Unfortunately, it was very beat up, but we got it repaired for well over a thousand dollars and it sounds so beautiful now. Definitely an upgrade from my $100 student violin!

dingle I played violin for years with a teacher, trust me you need a good violin if you want to be a serious musician because the sound will suck if you don't have it. Of course if someone has just started it's ok having an economic violin.

If there is something that I want to learn is some sort of craftsmanship. I wouldn't mind living off of this. It's truly something beautiful and I can't understand why we keep buying highly manufactured things, I hope we realise the value things have and that they shouldn't be replaced at the drop of and eyelid just because we can get another one really easily.
