Miami Vice was not just a cop TV series, it was a lot more than that. It was a show that defined a decade and captured the feel and look of the 80's with its brilliant use of music, fashion, decor, and guest celebrities at the time. R.I.P.

Don Johnson and PMT were born to play Crockett and Tubbs and together they made TV history ♥️😎. Once Don Johnson won his Golden Globe award, his career took off like a rocket. He wasn't the first choice to play Crockett, because he already had 5 failed pilots for NBC. He's been acting since 1969 and even now, in 2023, he's still going strong. High Heat just came out a couple of months ago and Book Club 2 comes out in May. He's 73 and still looking great

It is sad when ET decides to kickoff the end of Vice with only a large single pic of Don Johnson and not BOTH Crockett and Tubbs.

The 80's officially ended when Miami Vice ended ... and not the other way round
@evertonporter78874 жыл бұрын
You're right. Looking back, Miami Vice WAS the 80s in every sense. How fitting it ended in 1989, the year the Berlin Wall fell. Mann's debut movie, Manhunter, was almost an epilogue, a footnote, as it used the same style as Vice. I feel that Manhunter is set in the same time and place as Miami Vice.

There were a number of reasons Miami Vice came to an abrubt end. The biggest reason is probably because Don Johnson wanted to make movies. Crockett only appeared in a handful of Season 5 episodes, and in many of them Don Johnson was filmed separately from the rest of the cast. As a result, Switek often stood in for Crockett as Tubbs' partner. The executive producer Dick Wolf had also lost interest in Miami Vice by that point and had moved his attention to developing Law & Order, which i guess he saw as a fresh start for him since Miami Vice had been handed down to him from Michael Mann. The budget for the music, cars, and wardrobe also dwindled. Finally, Miami Vice had gone into syndication a year earlier: So it got to a point where a lot of fans probably preferred reruns over new episodes because the quality had declined.
@figment19885 жыл бұрын
another reason was because there were more impressive crime shows like 21 Jump Street which was stealing the spotlight (in fact, the Leap of Faith lost episode was meant to be a backdoor pilot for a 21 JS clone that took place in Miami which was never picked up)
@paulsecon48895 жыл бұрын
Supertron5000 Your on it dude but I believe the minimization Of “Crockett” was due to the story line at the end of season 4+into season 5. The “Hackman/Burnett/Crockett story went like 6 episodes which nobody I knew was bored with. Far from it, but the season as a whole was weak and popular actors today who were getting their start were weak as well. “Freefall” ended the show on a high note to be sure.

Ahh, the optimism of 1989. At the time a lot of people though Don and Philip were gonna blow up either in the movies or on TV in the 1990s, but it didn't happen. Don Johnson was one of the most underrated actors of the 1990s. Who the F*** was his agent and his PR people? In the 1990s (with the exception of Hot Spot), Don kept starring or co-starring in these generic ass movies that didn't make much money or nobody heard about. Aint no actor of Don's caliber should have had a period like he did from 1990 to 1995 in movies.
@mikekaraoke4 жыл бұрын
Ummm the films in the 90's like: Gulity as Sin, Tin Cup amongst others were not a flops etc , Along with TV movies like: In Pursuit of Honor, which was watched by millions so all a success-I know you mentioned about his movie career of the 90's which was untrue, But his TV Career in the 90's with Nash Bridges was a really big success-Loved that TV show

Harley Davidson & The Marlboro Man was pretty good. His follow up TV series Nash Bridges was good, too.
@gmcneoplan842 жыл бұрын
@@mikekaraoke Man, are you that ignorant or you can't comprehend sentences? I said MOVIES from 1990 to 1995. Tin Cup came out in 1996 and I wasn't talking about Nash Bridges, which is a TV show NOT a movie. Me and my mom watched that show a lot in its original run from 1996 to 2001 on CBS. You're just trying to start some shit on a subject you think you know but you don't. Guilty as Sin was a good movie but far from a box office hit. It made around $41 million at the box office on a limited amount of screens and it cost around $12 million. That budget doesn't include all the money spent on the film's production and such. Tin Cup was NOT Don's movie it was Kevin Costner's movie, Don was a a co-star of the film. Part of the reason why Don got that role was because he and Costner were friends and Don killed his audition for the role. All his made for TV movies and motion pictures were NOT big hits or well known. And that Honor film I saw it, but did you hear Don getting more buzz about his career in 2003 a year after the film came out? No you didn't. You're in denial dude and talking out of your ass. Don't start with me. You lucky I haven't been on this page in two years or I would have given tons of replies on this subject to make you look stupid.
@gmcneoplan842 жыл бұрын

Don Johnson brought it EVERY episode of Vice from episode 1 to 111. The thing is, Michael Mann and Jan Hammer left after seasons 2 and 4 respectively, and so in turn Miami Vice lost part of its heart and soul. Dick Wolf and his writing teams didn't really understand what made Vice what it was in seasons 1 and 2.

Great review ! At the 2'00 Mark she is spot on. Half way through Series 3 i.e. after the U.S Christmas holiday period there was a dramatic audience drop off in the U.S. which followed world wide. WHY - massive over-saturation. A TV show that affected hair styles, clothes and fashion, music and one of the most expensive and iconic luxury car brands . . . Ferrari. However, by 1987 Miami Vice tanked. EXACTLY one decade prior the rock band KISS were the biggest band in the U.S. by late '77 to April 1978. May 1979 - KISS become a joke and NOT even a world wide dance floor hit pop single that topped the works music charts could save them. Miami Vice - exploded unexpectedly and too quickly. More importantly. . . their supporters turned on them and turned into nasty critics. All of a sudden it was a pro-drug complete fantasy set up that's wasn't even remotely believable. Designer suit wearing, Ferrari driving under cover TV cops actually "offended " real life vice officers. In my home country off Australia we were told to watch Hill St. Blues . . . a real cop show watched by "real cops." Miami Vice was moved from an 8:30 pm time slot on Thursday evenings to 10:30 pm or later. Most of us stopped watching. A decade later I saw the last few episodes of Series 5 on another network shown after midnight. I'll NEVERforget what I heard next by the TV voice over on Channel 10 at 1 30 a.m. in 1996. " . . . I hope you enjoyed that as that was the last ever episode and therefore finale of Miami Vice . . ." I thought this is absurd as I was 16 when I first started watching it and now I'm 28. I couldn't believe they had 12 seasons !!! I found out later . . . Lol . . .that there were only 5 seasons and that Seasins 4 to 5 a ratings disaster. Wow . . .
