My grandparents buy olive oil in little disposable packages that look like Tide Pods because their olive oil "goes bad too fast." After giving me this reasoning I watched them use 8 of these pods to cook one meal! So incredibly wasteful and a total joke on the marketing front. My grandparents think they're being more sustainable because they "only use what they need," which they could easily do the same with a regular bottle of olive oil.

I have seen the less plastic trick with many companies, not only Palmolive. It isn't just too small a change; quite often the refill packages are made of plastic types that are not as easy to recycle as the original packages.

Exactly, so we're literally back to square one. These small changes are nothing but virtue signalling and marketing, and these companies are low-key crossing their fingers no one will notice lol

Long story short, we FINALLY have a zero waste store near me. I went to pay and it turned out to be the owner. I told her how absolutely THRILLED to have a store like hers and I feel like she even thought I was too enthusiastic 😅 I didn’t have any containers with me since I wanted to check it out first but next time I’ll be trying some more products.

Estrid could totally have made a recycling programme, where you send the used razor heads back to them.. Or they could have made a razor where you only have to replace the metal blades themselves (like a safety razor - just in pastel!). So yeah, they're just a somewhat better version of Gilette, just like you said (even though my sister swears that Estrid's razors are better and they do give to charity..)

this greenwashing series helps so much. I found a small company who was "green this and eco that" all over. I was quite suspicious, and I dig a bit into it. And the guys seems really "green": this company sell print rolls (POS, cashes in supermarkets). New ink, so it's actually reclyable as paper and not has to go into waste. No plastic core in the roll. And don't came wrapped in a shrink plastic, but just in cartboard boxes. I'm waiting to receive the package to see if there is a catch, somewhere. But being suspicious on greenwashing helps to find what is just show and what is actually better.

Another thing I had a wish thing which is receipts. I found out if you can scratch it and it shows a line it has plastic it in it. So I put it thought the paper shredded, so nobody nose my name. I hate it but I put it though my trash. If a company has no receipt but email receipt I love that. Thanks

I often wonder is typical eco-refill packaging actually better as they look to be soft plastic which isn't recyclable? Wouldn't it be better to use that 10% extra plastic and recycle it. A positive thing I found in my local supermarket was (own brand) recycled kitchen roll and toilet roll both wrapped in paper and being own brand is affordable so accessible to all budgets.
@pv9415
@pv9415 2 жыл бұрын
I get recycled toilet paper and it's the same as conventional TP just brown😂 also the audacity of sanitary pads brands lately... whew... I use a menstrual cup but recently I got some reusable pads to try out and they were next to the disposable ones. the store offers quite a lot of options for pads made with organic cotton and without plastic and they cost slightly more than conventional ones BUT now even conventional brands sell pads made of 100% organic cotton, however, they sell it for twice the price of their normal pads. I mean 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️
@Gittemary
@Gittemary 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah either that must be because they are trying to get some extra money out of consumers who are willing to pay more if they think they are getting a more sustainable product OR it is a witness to how absolutely horrendous the quality must be of the conventional pad. Or both? Both it is 😂

On the toilet paper packaging that is something that they should all be doing.. I hate it that when I buy toilet paper, womens hygiene, incontinence products it's all in plastic. I use mainly cloth but we do have to buy some things that are wrapped in that plastic Oh and baby diapers too. There has got to be a better way, cardboard even would be better than plastic. Think womens sanitaries for example in a box like a cereal box or even wrapped in brown paper? Same with TP. Anna In Ohio

The net zero carbon thing is total rubbish, clearly just a marketing ploy. After finding out that Amazon literally throws away thousands of returned items because it’s the cheapest way to deal with them, I would view any ‘green’ initiatives driven by them as highly suspect. Thanks for making this video. I love this channel and the work you are doing!

Situations like with the razors bother me. If another company is already making a more sustainable version of whatever someone is planning on making and selling, then I personally feel like they should NOT make their original idea, they should make the sustainable version more affordable. Continuing with the razor scenario, I would specifically love a leaf razor, can’t afford it though. I understand there’s paying for materials and labor and everything behind the scenes so I can see where it’d be difficult. With that being said - like you said, other companies already make them. It’s like I want to support smaller companies but I want the bigger ones already in markets that are generally more affordable to just do better. They have the money to do better.
@Gittemary
@Gittemary 2 жыл бұрын
My thoughts exactly, the company is trying to sell an already-available concept but in new more aesthetic packaging? That's not it. I also get your thoughts on the safety razor, I can recommend looking at some of the simpler straight razor models, they can often be found a bit cheaper than Leaf Shave, if you ever need one. Lots of love 🌿

I am older than your general audience here and some day a lot of you ladies will be in this situation of having incontinence. I have had a terrible time with finding something that doesn't break me out (the plastic covering) Kotex is the only brand I can find that doesn't. I am not at the point where I need Poise or any of those types but wear a pad to help with that little extra care I need during the day. I would like to find something cotton that is not disposable and not those pads that started out hand made but are now selling mainstream that don't seem to stay in place. Any ideas? Anna In Ohio

Maybe Thinx underwear? It's made for periods and it's very absorbent from what I heard. It's not cloth pad on naps, but whole panties with absorbing part. I personally didn't use it, mainly because I'm from Poland and we don't have them here, but another great environmentalist KZfaqr Shelbizlee is swearing by them (I found locally made cloth pads and they are working great for me).

I have to be careful because I work for a company that I'm working for. I take a lot of plastic off of every single thing. You can change things by do every 3 things plastic wise than ever thing. Or put one plastic around everything. It save money and save time taking it off. I'm going to stay up when they have another meeting.

Interesting how the pink tax is reversed here. For all my shavings, I use women's blades and shampoo's since they're often times 20-25% /cheaper/ here in comparison to men's. Plus, they smell far better :v

The zero waste sale has to be zero waste/has to try to be zero waste somehow, right? Or is it as vague term than green and eco are? If so, someone should definitely do sth about that... If the shop itself isn't zero waste, it can't be a "sale for zero waste items", but like you said maybe it's "sale for leftover stuff so we don't have to throw it out", which is not good enough, not even close... Also the toilet paper brand could introduce recycled line and slowly put down the unrecycled? If their idea is customer satisfaction with recycled paper isn't as high? (Though it's maybe cover for things like....money.)
