MATT WEBER, the cabbie with a camera, started out shooting the streets of NYC from his taxi in the early 80’s. Driving 7 days per week and 100 miles per day, he saw a unique and sometimes grimy side of NYC.
We revisit the Times Square sites where some of his most famous images were taken, analyzing then vs now. From the strip clubs and porn theaters to Disney stores and Batman, Matt weighs the positives and negatives of the changing times. It’s evident Matt truly loves documentation since it pays very few bills relative to how much time he spends on it. When he’s not taking care of his daughter, you'll find him out on the streets looking for that next perfect shot.

WRONG SIDE OF THE LENS is a documentary series exploring the lives of street photographers. Here, we get a rare chance to turn the camera on those not used to on that side of the lens. We begin to answer the question of why they are so obsession with taking images of complete strangers. They come from a variety of backgrounds yet are drawn to this same calling; street photo. This is a relatively new and, often misunderstood art form, which leaves ample room for these hard working artists to push boundaries. This series captures many of these moments.

I’m drawn to street photography, Matts metamorphosis from cabbie to photographer seems a natural one, some shit cannot be taught. Matts a documentarian and an artist, any serious collector should have at least one of his prints.

This right here! I think this is the perfect embodiment of what we dream of when we think about street photography. The grit and danger but also the memories, familiar faces we see in the same spot everyday, the constant torrent of people.. Sure, some places more than others, help in that regard as well. Im rambling. Amazing, as i ve come to expect after watching a few of these videos already!

Wow, that jump from being in the cab taking great shots to actually being on the street outside of the cab and getting those great shots! Great stuff from Matt!

This is such a fantastic video. Matt is one of my favorite photographers when it comes to his body of work where he captured a world unique to NYC that no longer exists. While I'm down south now, NYC will always be my home. His photos bring back memories of the place I remember. There are echoes still in those places, underneath the bright lights and glitzy touristy displays there now. The bones of the city remember and they find a home in Matt's photos.
