@The Friendship Onion . I just wanted to clarify a few things as requested ;) The volcano, is called "Orodruin" in Elvish (literally translates to "Mountain of Fire", or "Mount Doom" in the common tongue). If you are referring to the actual chamber inside the mountain, where the One Ring was forged and eventually destroyed, that is called "Sammath Naur" (Sindarin) for "Chamber of Fire". "Baradûr" is Sauron's Tower.... (Sindarin), deriving from the words "Barad" (tower) and "dûr" (dark). As for Aragorn's last speech... it never happened in the books, because the battle was a desperate last charge at the Black Gates. Despite having the Army of the Dead on his side, they were losing the battle and didn't have the time to re-group or rest before the final charge, as shown in the movies.... Also Éomer had a really big part in winning the Pelennor Fields battle. Awesome podcast guys, you should definitely do more ;) 9/10

@@liamskinner4922 Thank you for the correction! One more reason for me to re-read the book, I guess :D.. I am in the process of reading the Silmarillion now and there are so many events and names to remember, honestly I cannot comprehend how the professor remembered all that and actually re-wrote everything many times throughout his life. God bless him though he gave an invaluable gift to the English language and literature, and although I'm not English, I wish I could take a linguistics course, to better understand his structure and thinking process.

@JuGGerNauTT32 you are absolutely right about the locations in Mordor and thank you so much for sharing/correcting. Regarding Aragorn’s speech; I think the podcast question was referring to the final battle outside the Black Gates of Mordor after the conversation with the Mouth of Sauron (seen in extended edition) rather than the battle of Pelennor Fields, which took place in Gondor. By the time of that final battle, Aragorn had released the army of the dead from their pact and the mustered forces were Rohir, Gondorian and the remainder of the Fellowship who were able to fight. (Interesting side-note; in the books Merry doesn’t fight at the Black Gates, but remains behind to recover in the Houses of Healing with Eowyn and Faramir). There was no speech by Aragorn before the battle at the Black Gates; that masterpiece is all Fran Walsh’s doing.

I was 11 year old when I was introduced to Tolkien's universe through the movies. Those movies, and that universe, in many ways saved my childhood! It was an escape from a less-than-great reality, and when daily life became too overwhelming, I would watch the movies to forget the world around me, and instead get pulled into this fantastical and magical world, with all of these amazing characters that the two of you helped bring to life on screen! Podcast brilliance! Billy and Dom knock it out of the ballpark with their wit and charm. Merging elements of work and private life. It's difficult to not see Merry and Pippin at their usual antics. Two amazing actors and one podcast to rule them all!

You asked how the “second breakfast” scene has made it into our daily lives. Aside from it being a quote that regularly makes its way into conversation, it is also the name of a segment on our KZfaq channel in which we taste foods from around the world-Second Breakfast and Afternoon Tea. Thanks for being such a wonderful inspiration to us. 💛

I first read LotR in high school, became a huge fan. While in University, a professor started an 'Anthropology of Lord of the Rings' course. I tried to get in every year. My last semester, senior year, I FINALLY got in! It was the best class I've ever taken.

@@kellykieltyka1262 it was great! The only required reading was ‘The Hobbit’ and LotR. Our final essay question was “Who would win in a fight, Sam or Frodo? Why?” I wrote a 4 page paper.

@@sammiediva that's amazing! I ended up having to take a religion class to fill a senior requirement because the other classes were full. (I'm not religious in the least) so this would have been so fun! So who did you end up picking as the fight winner?

@@kellykieltyka1262 Frodo of course. Samwise, in his right-mind, would never fight Frodo, he would just sit there and take Frodo's punch's. Maybe even correct his form and help line up his shots! lol Of course if both hobbits were under some sort of mind control, Sam would absolutely win. I'd like to know who would win in a fight: Merry or Pippin?

Dom wearing that top with Dreamer on it resonates with me. In the 1974, when I was laid up with a succession of operations on my legs, I was reading and re-reading The Lord Of The Rings, and Supertramp's "Dreamer' from their album, Crime Of The Century, was seemingly on endless loop on the radio, and my turntable. That song, well, the whole album, Always invokes LOTR for me

Good to see the 2 of you together. Merry and Pippin are 2 of my favorite characters in LOTRs. Dom always stands out as well in every other movie or TV series I've seen him in. With Billie I've mostly known him as Pippin and loved the songs he's provided for Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.

No matter how long it’s been since we’ve spoken or seen each other, we pick up right where we left off, even when we lived on opposite ends of the US. Wish you two would team up on a movie together, a ‘buddy movie’, like the old Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor movies!
