Jussi Tarvainen the eye ball is an amazing tool. However you'll never be able to guess the exact color temp. Learning what cto and ctb are, get you within the range by eye. Then, you can start clicking the WB warmer or colder depending what your taste is. Setting your WB to whatever a spectrometer says is like "one stop shop, color is correct, let's move on" in my opinion

Paul Celeste from a white card? I use to white balance like that but now I dial in by the degree on my camera. But if I were to go back to that method, I would white balance before I put on gels. If you WB’d with the gels on, the camera will try to compensate and that’s not desirable when you want that blue to pop as an edge. Know what I mean?

When the camera was set to 4000k, it was reading the 5600 light (bathroom) as slightly blue, and the 3200 light (bedroom) as slightly orange. A light that is 4000K would read as white light, if there was one. When you set the camera to 5600k, it will white balance the 5600 light as white, which is less blue than before. The orange side is also less blue than before, making it even more orange. If he had set the camera to 3200K, the orange side would have become white, and the bathroom side would have appeared even more blue. Basically whatever you set your camera to- 3200K, 4000K, 5600K, it will read that colour of light as white. The closer you go to daylight, 5600K, the more orange your tungsten light looks, and vice versa. Sorry that's not very concise.

You can order them from b&h or filmtools or maybe look up your local grip house and see if they have rolls. You can also get lucky at a local photography shop sometimes. Just make sure you are buying a true 5600k or 3200k color temp gel. As opposed to just a regular blue color gel. Big difference.....hm....I probably should've added that to the Ep.

Marty Lucero color temperature straw, has a yellow kind of tint compared to cto. Cto has a very red undertone where cts has a yellow. I'm gonna have a tut on it eventually.

Well you can use the cto to correct a daylight bulb and vice versa with ctb. But they are not 3200k tungsten or 5600k daylight gels. As far as I know these gels are standart correction for tungsten and daylight. But whenever you put that gel it wont snap to 5600k or 3200k directly. And if you put ctb on a daylight bulb well it wont stay at 5600k it will go colder. Right same for a tungsten by putting cto on it will make it warmer.

yes, the video is not that great. use a color meter; it will tell you the temp of the source and what filter you need, no guessing, no calculations; of, it also costs as much as a crop sensor camera; everything else is just aproximation, but i will do like this@ ctb for shade ; cto or cts for tungsten; cto plus green for fluorescent

+Sammy Suh you know you would think that would make sense but it just doesn't work that way. That first shot for example is set at 4000k for a white balance and that's pretty close to being in between. As you can see the colors don't match. But then again maybe that's what you are going for.
