In this episode we have our first ride from our base caravan in Nairn holiday park. We start with the Whisky Galore Route a ride from the Simon Weir book Bikers Britain.
It takes us on a great loop through lots of different scenery and on loads of great roads. This was a fantastic days riding not without incident (a bridge in particular)
I have also included the GPX file of the actual route for you to download and use or amend to your liking.

Are we glad you boys are back on your bikes. The Scottish trip looks brilliant and the mileage you cover in one day, makes my backside ache thinking about it. I did 106 miles the other day around the local villages on my Honda 1982 CB250rs and I was shattered. I generally ride with the wife pillion on the T100 and that can be knackering as well. Anyway, thoroughly enjoying the ride with you guys. 'Happy Days' 👍

Well I never, although I might have guessed, the whisky galore route took you right through my home town of Forres, pronounced Forris. Where you turned onto the A940 to head for Forres the road approaching from your right is the one I spoke about which goes from Aviemore passed the Cairngorms through Grantown on Spey across the Dava moor. Just to your right as you entered the A940 is the turn off for Lochindorb with its ruined island castle, home to the notorious Wolf of Badenoch. The bridge where you met the motorhome "on your side of the road" is single track on a first come first across basis. Just before that bridge on your left is the turn off for Randolph's leap, a narrow River gorge where Randolph whilst being chased by Redcoats on horseback leaped across the gorge. The river Deveron was once renouned for Seatrout, probably the best eating fish but sadly like all other species in deep decline. Forres itself has several distilleries, Nelson's tower one of the earliest commemorative pieces of architecture from the top of which it's said you can see seven counties. Also it has a Pictish stone named Sueno's stone depicting an ancient bloody battle. The coastal road would also have taken you to Cullen only going through all the coastal towns with their harbours and beaches. From your caravan site or thereabouts Dolphins can be seen swimming, especially further up the East beach. A few miles further East is Fort George, a Star fort built after Culloden to Control the rebellious Highlanders. It's walls are over twenty feet thick and with its moat and protruding battlements armed with powerful cannons it would be pretty impenetrable even today. I'm pleased the three of you are enjoying exploring the land of my youth and as you can tell there's so much more to see.

OMG fella why did I not have all this info before for my prompt sheets, thank you so much I really appreciate it when a viewer inputs a bit of information about a place we have rode but man you have gone far and above to let us know all this. Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a superb comment informing us about everything around us.

@@Steve-Clark You obviously put some time into researching sites for your prompt sheets, although I am a little surprised Google maps didn't flag some of these visitor attractions up. It's quite simply impossible to visit all sights of interest whilst travelling, so don't beat yourself up about it. My comment may have been a little long winded so I'm glad you appreciated the local knowledge I was trying to convey.

This as they say up here in Scotland is a Grand tour, you have surpassed yourself Steve, although the swiss tour will still take some beating for me. You mentioned £2.06 a litre for fuel, that's £9.37 a gallon ☹ when I started riding back in 1972 it was 35p a gallon, that's 7.69p a litre, I don't know how any of us can sustain these costs. on a brighter note I just love the banter lads. Cheers Big Dave we were discussing petrol the other day and I said my first ever fill up cost me 72p a GALLON so know exactly where your coming from, like I comment in the video we are all just paying it as if the norm but it really has got out of hand and I agree with you my friend to sustain the crazy costs is gonna be hard. Thanks for watching fella and ride safe my friend.

Another great vid Steve. Difficult to go wrong on a Simon Weir route, his route guides are excellent. Only problem being on the bikes is you cannot stop and sample at the many distilleries. Did wonder if you might stick the drone up over the castle as it was closed. I did just that at the closed Hermitage Castle then someone has a go at me in the comments saying Scottish Heritage don't allow drones. See it made it up over the beautiful coastline where you were staying. Well done yet again and I'm sure folks will be grateful for the shared GPX files.

Yeah I have thought about that but it takes a hell of a lot of my time editing the cameras i already have and each one you add is another to sync up with the others. So maybe in the future might be a possibility, thanks for that.
