If there is one company that continues to improve their optics gear after year and pushes the entire industry to improve and compete it has to be Pulsar. Today we’ll be reviewing the new for 2022 Thermion 2 XP50 PRO LRF thermal rifle scope. The Thermion line up has been wildly popular for many years now but they were missing only one thing….a laser range finder. Now that wish has become a reality with this new and improved high end 640 resolution optic. Listen as Jason and Hans offer up their full field review is the newest thermal optic from Pulsar.

*** Why Hunt Hogs? ***
Our journey into wild/feral hog hunting started like many others living in rural communities. We didn't start hog hunting for fun or sport... we did it because we had to. You see, hogs cause millions of dollars of damage and destruction each year in rural communities and our situation was no different. Hogs were destroying our land and that our of friends and family. The vast majority of hunting stories that you hear about on this channel are hogs, boars and sows, taken from family land... this problem is personal for us...
__________________________________________________
*** Why Hunt Coyotes and Predators? ***
Coyotes and Predators, similar to hogs, cause financial stress for many families in rural communities. Coyotes kill livestock, plain and simple. Ranchers have battled coyotes killing cattle since the early days of ranching and it costs them dearly. Cattle ranching is a business, the cows aren't pets, every time they lose a calf to a coyote those families lose a paycheck. Cattle ranchers hate coyotes just as much as Farmers hate hogs! We hunt coyotes to protect the livelihood of our friends and neighbors that depend on their cattle business to feed their family...

Excellent review! Watched it when it first came out. Couldn’t get into one as I had just purchased my Trail2 LRF. I decided to go to a Hybrid50 just wasn’t happy with it after using Pulsar for a long while. It was like being an iPhone user for so long, and going to a nice Samsung. “Just didn’t feel right.” Sold it, lost a few bucks, but now back to Pulsar with this optic. Haven’t used it just yet as it was delivered and I’m out of town. This review took the sting out a little bit, appreciate it!

Great review gentleman. I have just ordered one of these scopes. I only use Pulsar and ATN thermal and NV in the U.K. The only thing, in my opinion missing from the is scope would be a built in ballistics computer like the ATN has. I suppose that would be cheating though. The built in multiple zero options make up for this though. Mark…..UK…..

Great show as always! Ever since I bought my Thermion XP50, I've been anticipating an LRF model. I think they did a fantastic job with fitting function with form. I don't think there's a way (at least today) to minimize an LRF "add-on", I'm just glad to finally see it! And I've been waiting for your review. I can't wait to get my hands on one. If there is ONE complaint I have with the Thermion, I would like to see more of a "tactile" click on the side menu knob. There have been so many times where I've selected which menu item I want to access and press the knob for selection. only to inadvertently move it up or down simultaneously resulting in the wrong application, because it rotates so easily. Anyway, my one complaint. Maybe it's just me. Stay safe in the fields...

Daniel, that’s a good point about the roller menu knob (or whatever it’s called!) on the side of the scope. I have accidentally rolled the knob when trying to press in and select something. I’m pretty careful now so it’s not a big issue but you’re correct if each movement had a little bump or click to it that problem would be solved. Good point! Jason

Great review. I always feel battery life is something so difficult to nail down because not everyone practices good battery management. Also there is time between stands. 5 solid hours of battery life may allow you hunt from 9pm to 4am because of time between stands. 8 hours…well if you’re coyote hunting with breaks between stands you will probably have no issues 9pm to well daylight no problem. Also battery management can mean you get really good at putting the scope on standby while scanning with a handheld thermal. I always scanned with an Axion key XM30 and I think it has a 5 hour battery but I rarely ever got close to running out of power on an all night hunt. Like Jason and Hans say of you get one extra APS battery you’ll probably never have any power issues. Happy hunting!

Great points all around. If you’re using a handheld scanner 5 hours of scope time is way more than enough. We suggest leaving your scope off while driving around, walking etc. and just use the handheld. When on a set or making a final stalk, leave the scope on standby. You’re dead on, with a handheld the battery concerns go way way down.

Man, finally got my hands on one of these a couple days ago and didn’t leave with it like I expected I would. I think they missed the mark a bit on this by putting the LRF on the 2x xp50 instead of the 3x XG50. Of course my opinion and $5 will get you a cup of coffee at some places

We’ve always said the LRF should be on a 3x, so we totally agree with you but they’ve had the LRF on the XP50’s since the original 1.6x mag Trail and people love them. We’re with you though, if you’re going to need the LRF you’ll likely want 3x base mag.

I think you read the 2nd weight backwards. You said the 1st weight was 34.2 oz and the regular w/out weighs 13.17 oz. You must have meant 31.17 oz.

Does a bigger battery give you any benefit in the cold? I always thought that a cold battery has low voltage no matter the voltage, capacity or charge condition.
@TheLateNightVisionShow
@TheLateNightVisionShow 2 жыл бұрын
Our understanding is that the very cold temps eat away at the battery charge. For instance let’s use a Pulsar Trail as an example…..I do know for a fact that the IPS14 lasts MUCH longer than the smaller IPS7 in very cold temps. Same battery but different mah capacities. I hope that helps!

At ~10:40, you transposed the first two numbers in the weight of the T2 XP50 (non-LRF model). You said 13, when you should have said 31.

This scope does not have a daytime mode. Only the Pulsar Thermion DUO’s have both thermal and a full color daytime mode.

Just for my piece of kind how much can I get on trade for my thermion 2 xp50 if I wanted to upgrade???? FYI I just got mine back in September of 2021 from you guys and it's been used VERY VERY little. Lol I'm scared to mess anything up on it so I barely bring it out of the safe.

Jeremey we tell everyone that you’ll do WAY better selling it out right vs trading in because we aren’t in the used scope business. Sometimes used or demo scopes we have might sit for 3-4 months before we can sell them. And we don’t want to insult you on the trade offer either. But if you really felt you couldn’t or wouldn’t want to sell it yourself we can try ti figure out what we can give you for it but you probably won’t like it.😂 Feel free to email us if you want and we’ll see what we can do. Thanks Jason

It depends on your budget but in a 384 resolution for long range I’d look at the iRay Rico RL42 4x or later this year Pulsar will have the Thermion 2 XQ50 Pro LRF 3.5x. If your looking at 640 I’d say the Rico RH50 3x. Both the Ricos would need their $799 LRF module added on.

@@TheLateNightVisionShow I'll look into the Rico. The Rico lrf seems costly.. I'm hoping for pulsar xg50 with lrf Seems xm50 is still at top of list for longer range Thank you.

So if the Trail XP50 with LRF is also $6K, is there any key differences between the Thermion and the Trail that would make me choose one or the other? Happy to call and discuss, but I would imagine anyone willing to spend $6K and a fan of Pulsar would want to know.

Yes sir I’d suggest calling us for the details. It’s complicated to lay it all out but the Thermion 2 XP50 Pro is two models/upgrades newer than the Trail 2 XP50. The Trail 2 is identical to the discontinued original Thermion XP50 from 2019.

It’s 34oz, the 13 must have been a mistake. I wish we could have a full size thermal with a LRF and it only be 13oz.😎
