The Late Night Vision Show

The Late Night Vision Show

Жыл бұрын

AGM has made a name for themselves by bringing multiple models of both handheld and rifle mounted thermals to the market that are full featured, reliable, user friendly and a very good value for the dollar. Now that AGM has three different scope model groups including their flagship line of Rattlers, the Varmint LRF and their latest release of the Adders in a traditional day time scope design, there has been confusion from consumers on the differences between them all and the often asked question of "which model is the best?". Our answer to that question is always "it depends". On this show Hans and Jason will go over the basic specs and benefits of each model and offer their thoughts on who each scope is good for. While this won't answer every question, hopefully it will help clear up some confusion on the different models and help narrow down the list for hunters looking to purchase a thermal scope to suit their needs. If you have more questions about which scope is right for you and your situation, don't hesitate to give Hans and Jason a call and they will be glad to help.

*** Why Hunt Hogs? ***
Our journey into wild/feral hog hunting started like many others living in rural communities. We didn't start hog hunting for fun or sport... we did it because we had to. You see, hogs cause millions of dollars of damage and destruction each year in rural communities and our situation was no different. Hogs were destroying our land and that our of friends and family. The vast majority of hunting stories that you hear about on this channel are hogs, boars and sows, taken from family land... this problem is personal for us...
__________________________________________________
*** Why Hunt Coyotes and Predators? ***
Coyotes and Predators, similar to hogs, cause financial stress for many families in rural communities. Coyotes kill livestock, plain and simple. Ranchers have battled coyotes killing cattle since the early days of ranching and it costs them dearly. Cattle ranching is a business, the cows aren't pets, every time they lose a calf to a coyote those families lose a paycheck. Cattle ranchers hate coyotes just as much as Farmers hate hogs! We hunt coyotes to protect the livelihood of our friends and neighbors that depend on their cattle business to feed their family...

I couldn't wait for the delays upon delays on the Adder so grabbed a Bolt tl35 early this year. I also have an AGM and what do you guys think about the difference in display? To me the bolt looks so much better with the higher resolution screen. While I haven't been able to test an adder but my bolt works so so much better than my agm in snow and high humidity with rain. Can't stand my own voice so not worried about audio but do you see image difference with the screen resolution? Have you tried the adder in inclement weather? The adder is definitely aggressively priced and I'm happy they're putting downward pressure on market prices. For us northern coyote hunters performance in inclement weather is really important. I'd ask your thoughts but just realized I've never seen y'all reply to these comments other than to call. Sorry for rambling.

Two questions: Living in the north and primarily hunting coyotes, does purchasing a lower base magnification and using it as a monocular, and using a higher rifle base mag work well even if you hope to do a few hog hunting? Second question- For those who have purchased the laser range finder, have those individuals tend to actually use it frequently or not nearly as often as they thought they might?

Kinda off topic, but how do you guys recommend cleaning the objective lens on a thermal scope and also, should any anti fog be applied?
@TheLateNightVisionShow
@TheLateNightVisionShow Жыл бұрын
A soft lens cloth like you’d clean reading glasses and a daytime optic. If it’s really dirty one of the wet paper lens wipes is fine. Contrary to popular belief the front lens on a thermal scope is just really good glass like a day scope. The super expensive germanium lens sits between the front lens and the thermal sensor. I would personally not advise putting anything at all (anti-fog etc) on the lens. I’m not saying it would hurt it but that’s a no go for us. Thanks for watching. When you get ready for another optic give us a shout!

Yes it just works like a normal rangefinder and gives you the yardage. You need to know your hold overs and be able to adjust accordingly. Currently none is the quality manufacturers are putting any sort of smart reticle adjustments in their scopes
@curteous1
@curteous1 Жыл бұрын
With the 5-gun profile setup on my Adder, I’ve found that I wish I had bought a model with LRF, my theory is that I can use the different reticle settings (5 total) within each gun profile to zero, then label at that range, A-1 zeroed at 75 yards, A-5 zeroed at 200 yards etc. With all of those ranges set to their zero, having an LRF to tell you exact range would point you to select the reticle range closest to that range, then you’re narrowing down how much dope to add for that shot.

I wanted to follow up on your comments on bolt action with picatinny rail. I'm looking for a scope for 30-06 bolt action. Hunting hogs and coyotes out to 200yds. Would you recommend Adder over rattler even with picatinny rail? How about 30-06 recoil? Current night vision scope resets with every shot.
@TheLateNightVisionShow
@TheLateNightVisionShow 7 ай бұрын
We would always recommend a tube/traditional style scope for a bolt gun over a shorter block style scope. Your mounting options are way better on a 30mm tube optic on a bolt action. Only Pulsar, Infiray Outdoor and N-Vision are rated for over a .308. Unfortunately the Adder and Rattler are not rated for your recoil, Feel free to give us a call this week. We can discuss the options and we’ll be happy to offer our advice. We’d love to have your business. 877-350-1818

AGM is a US company that builds some of their own optics but also brings in some of Hikmicro’s optics under their own name and offers their own US warranty and customer service. They work with Hik on the development and improvement of optics before and after they are released so there is more too it than them just simply re-branding. But yes the much of AGM’s product line is manufactured by Hik.

You know, it's crazy there is $500 difference in a fixed focal length lens. The sensor size is the same. The area the lens has to project to cover the sensor is more or less the same. The cost to manufacture the lenses I guarantee is thE same. Yet they are sticking it to the consumer. I have a degree in photography and a professional photographer since 1976. Something does not add up to the cost vs such a minor change in focal length ie magnification. Just saying.

Thanks for watching Rowdy. We don’t know anything about the manufacturing costs of thermals but we do know that with every brand on the market there is a price increase, usually about $500, when you move to the same model with a higher base magnification. Some brands charge $1,000 to go up one step in magnification. Again, we have no clue about their costs but that’s the way it’s been with every brand since we got into this industry 10 years ago? Thanks again for watching.

Thanks for watching. The Rattler 384’s aren’t capable of 400 yard ID and shooting. That’s really really pushing what their 640’s can do as well. To shoot 400 yards you’re probably going to need something in the $4000+ minimum range. We’d love to help but we don’t have any thermal scopes under $2000 and they are going to top out around 200 yards max. The manufacturers have told us that in modern times it only costs them about $20-$25 to add those features. It has been proven that those features will cause a scope to out sell 50 to 1 a similar scope without those features. In this day and age it’s like asking for an iPhone with no internet or texting or a truck with no radio or AC. Manufacturing and demand have moved past those days and it no longer costs hardly anything to add them. If you’re looking to get into night hunting and want to spend less than $1,000 check out our reviews on the Sightmark Wraith and AGM Neith digital NV optics. Currently you’re not going to get a decent thermal for under $1995. Thanks for watching!
