In the Bible, Jesus tells his disciples the following about the end of the world: “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven nor the Son, but only the Father." (Matthew 24:36). Despite this, William Miller, a popular minister in New York, preached that he had calculated the precise day on which the world would come to an end. He was wrong. Twice. In this episode, Josh explores William Miller’s conversion to evangelical Christianity, his calculations about the end of the world, and the fallout from his incorrect predictions. The World Mission Society Church of God borrows alot of 7th Day Adventist Beliefs, and discusses some of the failed End of World Predictions from William Miller (and also had our own share of failed End of World Predictions). Where can one buy one of these Miller charts? Come the year 1843 and extend another 2300 solar-lunar eclipse cycle (as discovered by Jean PhillippeloylddeChesaux, a Swiss astronomer 1740s), you will see somehing fascinating happen in the morning sky in the autumn, September 21,22,and 23.

People like to go around criticizing William Miller however what many don't realize is that the great disappointment was actually predicted in scripture. Of course i wouldn't expect anyone to understand that because they don't understand prophecy. But people shouldn't be making fun of things they don't understand.

I'm predicting something big will happen. Don't believe me? As proof of my powers of prophecy, I also predict people won't believe my predictions when they don't come true. Because that prediction came true, you know I'm the genuine article. (See how that works?)
