It could be that she was not having an affair and this was a plan she and the dude (and probably others) had set up to cause some problems, cause that big mob came in just a few days, which to me seems very quick

I grew up like an hour from Rosewood and we never learned about this. Which isn’t surprising given its Florida but every time I learn about something in history, that has been basically erased, I get so mad. Thank you for educating me so that I may better educate my son.

There is a movie about this. Its an old movie but most in the African American community watched it as kids. Even though its erased from school books, if more white ppl were willing to watch movies with AA characters or be okay with listening to AA people, maybe more wouldve been aware of what happened.

It used to happen all the time. Even children were hung for being inappropriate, as if a child would dare do something so foolish back then. Always to avoid public shame.

If i can remember correctly, i saw a case where a 14 year old black teenager was strapped to an electric chair and executed for being wrongly accused of something. His name was George Stinney

Can you do a “dark history” surrounding “residential schools/industrial schools/American Indian schools” in Canada they are now digging up around old schools and finding hundreds of unmarked graves of children as young as 3-4. This was overlooked for decades! Something to research !

Update - The family that bought last surviving home in Rosewood that survived the massacre, John Wright's house, was donated to the community by the family that purchased it. It will become a museum.

The saddest part about this is there are so many towns where black people were thriving that have now been as I call hidden/erased from history. I am so glad there are so many people like Bailey doing research and educating us on all the parts of history that America tries so desperately to keep us from talking about. We need to understand the past so we can make sure we never allow this stuff to happen again. Education is power and that’s the one thing NO ONE can take away from you. Keep educating yourselves everyone and don’t ever stop questioning and taking it upon yourself to look things up.

I remember watching a documentary about the Pruitt Igoe projects…. And how strange and unjust it was. They wanted to move people of color from the suburbs into projects (I hope my memories right - pls watch the doc yourself). The absolute worst part of the entire thing is that it led to the now “black American dad story” of not being involved in their families lives. But! It wasn’t by choice. The families had to lie if their father did live with them and he would have to stay away during government check ins. Eventually the funding for these projects ran out as jobs left the city. Its an extremely emotional watch but educational. It’s been a few years since I watched it so I apologize if any information is off. Feel free to correct me & I will edit my comment.

Hi Bailey! I'm hoping you see this but knowing that you have covered the Tulsa Race Massacre before, I was wondering if you would be interested in learning or covering the Wilmington Race Riot(Massacre) that happened in Wilmington NC back in 1989. It is something that has been really buried here in NC.. I was raised here and I just learned about it last week on a trip to the Poplar Grove plantation (which was known for being a Union loyal plantation until they were forced to succeed with the rest of the state.) The woman who led our tour had me in tears by the end and really expressed the true history of what went on at the plantation... it was an amazing experience. I would love for the sake of change and uncovering the history North Carolina is trying to bury.

I was literally like, “hasn’t she told this story before?” Because I’ve watched the Tulsa Race Massacre video. I find it so disturbing that it’s a completely different story but so similar and nothing was done about either times, plus it is hidden from the world practically. I’d never heard of them until Bailey. Disgusting. Thank you for videos like these though. It’s so important.

@@BBB-rd2qi i mean yes, but these stories and the cases Bailey covers on Mondays are distinctly different. While true crime is comprised of various crime cases that have occurred throughout history, these history stories are bigger, involve more people, and generally have a broader influence. The history stories oftentimes don’t involve a “crime” in the sense that no one was criminally investigated, much less prosecuted and found guilty. Both are important and need to be shared - they’re just not exactly the same.

I’ve heard of this story several times before, and each time it fills me with an overwhelming sense of dread and fear and astonishment. From Proudly being apart of the black community my heart breaks that we had to go through this. It started from a lie and then was escalated through racial motivations.

It was on my heart to rewatch Rosewood movie tonight 5/16/2023. was young girl when it 1st came out. I've always turned my children on to movies I watched as a child like this 1, Mississippi Burning, The Color Purple & Roots. Rewatching Rosewood led me back here tonight. I will forever remember. For those interested, there's an actual movie on it. It's really heart wrenching and you'll see some familiar actors playing the roles. I think it's just called "Rosewood". I'm shocked at how many people never heard this story, but truthfully, our school systems don't really teach these things.

They all but completely exterminated the Mohican tribe of indians as well. Today their is about 1500 left. About half of these people live on a reservation in Wisconsin.

See I must have lived in a bubble of reality growing up. We learned about all the stuff you mentioned. My mom was raised in Oklahoma and my grandfather worked for the federal government. His job was to give land back to Natives who asked for it.

As a Black Floridian I’ve only ever heard about the Rosewood Massacre through my FAFSA application, and they didn’t even call it a massacre!! They were always super vague about it and I never thought to look it up for myself, thank you for talking about this 💛

I have to say this, however it might offend people. The continuation of the horrible Fannie legacy is happening and worsening because the Rosewood massacre was erased from public records. It is foolish to believe that just pretending these events never took place is the best way to treat with the trauma of what happened. Thank you Bailey for discussing these hideous apocalyptic event, and perhaps making sure people never forget so that this legacy might be ended completely.

I think the neighbors that would have been home at that time of day might have known what was going on, meaning the women since the men who took up their pitchforks and firebrands would have been at work. You just KNOW they were sitting there, gossiping about "Mr so-and-so is over there doing the winkie dinkie with Fannie again". In a small town like that those women HAD to know what was going on. And in the 1920s, in the south especially, women didn't have any say in what would be considered "men's business"

Born and raised in Florida and never learned about this in school. Even took an African American history class in high school and it was never mentioned. It wasn't until the movie Rosewood came out in the 90s that learned about the massacre. Literally NO ONE talked about it but if you asked an older black person they would usually know about it. The whole thing is so sad and bizarre.

YES!!! There have been almost 2000 bodies of native children found in unmarked graves from 6 residential schools in Canada. There are over 300 residential schools in the US alone.

I've now seen both the Tulsa massacre and now Rosewood. South Omaha, Nebraska (where I live) had 2 racially motivated fires. The first was in 1909 to drive out the Greek population in South Omaha. The second fire was in 1919 after the lynching of Will Brown, a black man wrongfully accused of r*ping a white woman. Even TODAY African-Americans living in Omaha all reside in the Northern part of Omaha.

I learned about this in high school on my own. I grew up in a predominantly white town in rural north Florida. It’s maddening that the state is working so hard to keep such as race based parts of American history out of the classroom so white students don’t feel bad about their race. The saddest part is that the murderers, and the past government of America doesnt feel guilty. No one is sorry. No one is embarrassed of what happened. Let's be real, if those survivors didnt push for recognition and remembrance, that event wouldve been dismissed and forgotten decades ago.
