Unfortunately I am out of dry crops to go after, so today I returned the favor and helped a friend. So in this video, you’ll get to see some different equipment to mix things up.

A few things could be done to that R62 to make it handle soybeans much better and it doesn't cost much to do. Maybe some things I mention have been done but if it doesn't have the false floor in the feeder house get one. Put shock absorbers on each side of both feeder chains. There is a kit but maybe get the hardware from a junker and new shocks from NAPA. Kit was around $600 for my R52 last year. Add a helical vane in the thresher part of the cage to extend the helical that is too short and dumps already thrashed material in the feed area again. You don't want that. You can put a smaller front feeder drum in it and lower the feed floor in a certain place near middle. These few things will make it feed much better. Replace the reverse bars with forward bars on the rotor. Also move the header auger forward as far as possible even if you need to add some drive chain. Put a 3" drainage tile clamped at the guards so the bean stalks are flipped over it and closer to the reel and auger. Or put a good John Deere flex head on it. Only thing John Deere ever got right ;)

Love your videos. We have a Gleaner R52 for corn & it's corn eater too. Much prefer our JD 8820 Titan 2 for beans though. It' a bean machine. Love to see a video of how you make & edit your videos. I've thought about doing KZfaq videos in the past for our farm.
@SilverGleaner3 жыл бұрын
Does your R52 have the shock absorbers on the feeder house? Has the feeder floor been lowered in the middle? Any rotor up dates like the extended helical over the rotor inlet and extended bars into the discharge? Those things will all help your R52 a lot but it is a bit smaller machine than your 8820. You can also do some things to the Gleaner bean head but the fastest way to improve the Gleaner head is to turn it into a Deere head or install an air reel. I'm going to try an orbit reel on my 800 20 foot Gleaner head this year. A few Gleaner gurus claim they can make the R52 perform with a stock R62 by doing all that and by removing every other cylinder bar from the separator area and adding in an F2 cylinder bar to the bottom of the separator cage. I think you can make that R52 out perform an 8820...... I'd sure like to try. Be interesting to see if you could do it especially since you have an 8820 to compare to.
@garywaxler78663 жыл бұрын
@@SilverGleaner I don't think our Gleaner has any updates/improvements like that. We used to use the 52 for corn & beans. It wasn't bad switching 52 back & forth but once we got the 8820 it just made more sense to use the Gleaner for corn & John Deere for beans. Makes it super easy & convenient to switch between crops. The John Deere came with a 25' head, which seemed huge compared too our 20' Gleaner head.

I run a 2388 also and the straw spreaders on mine are seized up so the detent ball is stuck in so when I removed them to put chopper blades on I can't get one of them back on. Any advice? Tried blaster and WD-40 already.

Those deutz motors sound good- but they don’t compare to the sound our R62 with a Cummins makes. You can hear the “scream” from a mile away.

A few simple low cost things can be done on that R62 to make it go much better in green stem soybeans. Replace reverse rotors bats with forward bars, lower feeder floor, add the shock absorber kit to the feeder chains. Because the feeder house is shorter on the old N series, the N series didn't really have much for feeding problems. Back to the R62. Extend the helical vane over rotor inlet so it doesn't drop already threshed material into the feeder opening again and add forward bars to the left end of rotor so they extend into the discharge area............... but just replacing the reverse bars with forwards bars and extending the helical and extending the bars into the discharge would make it a different machine in soybeans. Put an air reel on too and it will outshine most any combine out there. Gleaner gurus knew all this stuff soon after the 2 series came out. AGCO wouldn't listen to them for several years but they finally did so today's Gleaners are awesome right out of the box. By far the simplest and most efficient combine on the market. I have never needed a dealer to come out for a single repair on my Gleaners.

Dealer support, never been around red that was any good. My families farm has been green since the 40s and we will stay green till the end of time. We have one red dealer within an hour of us and 6 Deere dealers in the same distance. We have never had luck with the red we have tried through out the years but when it comes to combines it's all about getting them set correctly because if you don't do that then none of them are any good.

@@chadjustice8560 Service is everything these days. Used to be a ton of Gleaners around when I was a kid in the 1970's and early 80's. Dealers everywhere but the farm economy took Allis Chalmers down and Deutz did the dealers no favors and their market share dried up. Allis was in too many things and used the ag equipment profits in the 70's to prop up the many industrial lines and energy lines that were sinking in the 1970's poor economy so when the farm economy took a dive Allis Chalmers had no reserves to make it through. Just like IH in a way. Deere wasn't into so many industries like Allis was, like mining, forestry, flour mills, rock crushers, nuke plants, transformers, hydro dams, oil field equipment (the last thing Allis Chalmers gave up just a few years ago was the oil field equipment.... just before Trump revitalized the industry), ship engines including Navy ship engines as big as a house, other military, etc etc. Most of these industries Allis was in to were suffering during the Carter administration as he cut and cut and went after the mining, oil, nuke plants, forestry and so on. Some things were dead before Carter too.
