I might just consider this their best album too. Brighten the Corners I’ve always considered to be Pavement’s most mature and really most emotionally vulnerable album to date. I absolutely adore it.

It’s worth pointing out that the song was ultimately titled “Westie CAN Drum”, despite the lyrics. So I took it as more playful than anything, but amazed that the band never discussed it!

I went to the lollapalooza in barrie too! it's so funny that that's supposed to be the lollapalooza that brought down the whole enterprise because it was the one with all the bands I like. I saw that interview where they talk about how the 96 tour was the worst for them but I loved the show and I had no idea they weren't popular because I was right up front

What do you think of Isaac Brock as a lyricist? I too believe David Berman and Stephen Malkmus are two of the best

I enjoy MM but it kind of bugs me how Isaac kind of just repeats versus alot, instead of the second verse being different etc.

@@ST-xg3gy Modest Mouse - For the record I think Isaac Brock wrote some great lyrics in the 90's. I always see them as incomparable to Malkmus' lyrics though, they always seemed different to me.

Who called it their best album? I never ever ever heard that. Gary Young was an eccentric? He had a drinking issue.

Describe how Gary Young having “a drinking issue?” means calling him “eccentric” is therefore inaccurate?
