Hi, Andrew! I'm sorry you've been feeling this way, but naturally, self-doubt is part of growing older, especially in college where we sort of decide the direction of our lives. I took up SLP as a 2nd degree na, and I had a classmate in SLP who had a similar dilemma, in the sense na 'di siya sure if this was the right course for her. She wasn't getting very good grades, because she was unmotivated; so unlike you (you said you enjoy classes, but have a hard time communicating) -- she really DID NOT enjoy our classes at all. Problema niya, yung parents niya sinabi na if she doesn't finish this course, hindi na daw nila susustentuhan 🥺 It was a really hard decision for her, but she said that what I told her really stayed with her: that it's important to enjoy college, and to just follow her heart. She eventually shifted out (to pursue Clothing Tech in Diliman!) and now she's a big-time clothing entrepreneur that represents our country! Haba ng storya, haha! But I hope that if you do continue SLP, your heart MUST be in it, because it is NOT an easy profession. Ilang beses ko na rin inisip, "I WILL RETIRE EARLY!" kasi nakakapagod siya, and there can be really bad days where aawayin ka ng parents ng mga bata, or napapansin mong mabagal ang progress ng client mo, and those are very disheartening, too. BUT if the problem is just communicating in English, I am SURE you can answer in Filipino! Sa UP pa ba? Ang importante naman may sense yung sinasabi mo, ke-English o Tagalog pa yan. In terms of good communication -- be sure you understand the topic, so you know exactly the things you want to say. Always know the WHYs of any topic. Usually, poor communication skills are caused by: 1. poor understanding 2. poor organization of thoughts 3. not having the right vocabulary for what you want to say 4. trying to explain in too many words. The more concise, usually the better. With regard to test-taking, what really works for me is not forcing myself to memorize things, but to UNDERSTAND the concepts behind them, so naturally the ideas just stick later on.
