I was born in Huntsville, Ontario but spent some of my high school years on Manitoulin Island. Best years of my growing up! In the winter we had to take the snowmobiles up to the crossroads to catch the bus. You did not miss school for roads not being cleared! Thanks for the memories!

I grew up in Fort Fairfield and picked lots of potatoes. I would frequent Condons Bakery, attended NMTC (NMVTI during that time) and spent many tanks of fuel cruising the main drag in Presque Isle from the McDonalds and turned around at the Shop and Save. My sister still lives in Mars Hill.

Rural Maine is very heavily forested. But around the towns there tends to be more farmland so it looks more open. If you watch the videos of our Maine land 50 acres that we bought (Ep 50 & 51), it is totally forested. Thanks for watching!

Yes, though we've noticed a growing trend of younger people coming back to the area (or coming there for the first time). The town of Houlton is doing an amazing marketing campaign to draw younger families to the area. Jason's cousin is at Teresa's Corner Cafe & Bakery, 299 Main St, Presque Isle (link in the description of this video as well). Her cafe was started in 2010. Jason's grandmother owned Condon's Bakery in the late 1970s & 80s at the location where the current Riverside Inn Restaurant is now by the railroad tracks. Thanks for watching!

I am originally from Van Buren, ME and now live in Idaho. You are lucky that you did not get stopped by the US Border Patrol while you were driving the border, especially when you stepped out of your vehicle and technically crossed into Canada. Last year I visited the Fort Fairfield Country Club while it was closed on a rainy day. I remained in the US parking lot and also drove a road along the border minding my business. I did get stopped and was questioned by the US Border Patrol. I guess they're doing their job and can't be too careful.
@CircuitRidinRV
@CircuitRidinRV 5 ай бұрын
Yep, we have driven that road along the Fort Fairfield country club as well and had to turn back because of border patrol. And there are cameras all along the road where the Canada border monuments are (where we got out of our car). I’m sure they are watching carefully, but we have never had anyone approach us on that road in several visits. Thanks for watching!

I live in southern Maine but my husband’s mother is originally from Easton. Hubby’s cousin owns a big potato farm there that he inherited from his dad fairly recently. I don’t want to publicize the name but it begins with “F” We haven’t been up there in a few years, but we recently bought a camper and want to bring it up. I found your video while searching for camping spots around Presque Isle, even though I think hubby’s aunt will let us boondock in her driveway in Easton.

Very cool, thanks for watching! We ended up buying 55 acres of woodland south of Houlton and are currently developing it into a summer camp where we can park the RV for a few months each year. I have some other videos on our Maine land development if you’re interested. Hope you can make it north with your camper!

@@CircuitRidinRV I’m sure we will. I just showed your video to my husband and he said he’s pretty sure one of his cousins is friends with your cousin Teresa. I know I’ve heard her talk about the restaurant before. What a small world! His cousin is from Easton, then lived in Mapleton, and is now in Mars Hill. We’re tentatively planning a trip up there the end of June. My mom in law was born and raised in Easton, and my father in law was from the southern border of the state, where my husband was born and raised and we now live. We’re about 15 min from the Piscataqua bridge in your video. 😊

Actually, Maine really belongs to Canada, so we should grab it while the US is distracted and sending stuff over to Europe!!! Haha. No, actually the US is the best neighbour anyone could ask for. Canada has done well by this (and I hope we've helped the US in our small way).

I found it interesting to read the story of how the Maine border got drawn at the old Fort Kent! There were different opinions that led to the Aroostook War, and they finally met somewhere in the middle. You can see that in my Ep 53: St. John Valley Scenic Byway video. We love our Canadian neighbors! Hope to get over there this summer. Thanks for watching :)

John 3:16-21 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
