Hello y’all! Welcome to the 5th episode of Ten Years In Bed! Today we delve into the parallels between Rue from Euphoria and my own life. I talk about my childhood OCD diagnosis, what OCD is and how it shows up in my life. I discuss how in childhood I genuinely thought that if I didn’t perform certain actions for a set number of times in a specified amount of time; my mom was going to die. I talk about tapping floor boards and tiles, fortune cookie hockey helmets, tapping my cup thrice before setting it down and more fun little things. We discuss my relapse after getting kicked out of rehab for the first time at 17 and getting fully sober at 19. It was extremely weird going to parties as a sober 19 year old when I had just done a lifetime’s worth of drugs in a few years - surrounded by people who were just starting their drug journeys. Main takeaway; just because you like things clean, doesn’t mean you have OCD. Understand that your words have weight and have the potential to invalidate other people’s debilitating struggles.
