One of our favorite places in all of Colorado, we head to Crested Butte after first making some emergency repairs to our travel trailer's Fastway Equalizer e2 weight distribution hitch while camping atop Grand Mesa on Colorado's Western Slope. Crested Butte is a genuine restored Colorado mining town deep in the Rocky Mountains with all manner of outdoor recreation available. We find scenic and secluded boondocking high in Washington Gulch, explore the town, and kayak on the high alpine Lake Irwin in Part I of our visit to Crested Butte.
Filmed August 4-7, 2018.

ABOUT US
Welcome to Grand Adventure, a KZfaq channel that focuses on RV-centric outdoor activities including not only of course camping, but also mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, skiing and more, nearly always filmed in stunning 4K.
We're based in Salt Lake City, Utah, and invite you to come along as we travel all around the western U.S. My wife Patricia and I, and our dogs Zoe and Maggie are avid boondockers, so you'll seldom find us in RV parks or even dry campgrounds. Instead, we're usually camped in some of the most remote and beautiful spots that you could ever pull a travel trailer into. And unlike most other RV channels on KZfaq, we're not RV dealers or full-timers -- we're weekend warriors just like you!
We'll provide tips and insight on equipping and maintaining your RV, trip planning and travel videos to make your next adventure a grand one indeed! So, subscribe to make sure that you catch every episode, and remember...life is nothing but a Grand Adventure!

I spent the winter of 1969-70 in Crested Butte, working at the Forest Queen Hotel for room & board & lift tickets. One of the highlights my life. I have yet to get back there again; but I will. Thanks for showing me what it is like now.

TR Bowlin: Zoe photobomb! The dog is ball-obsessed. Thanks, TR! We love the ski terrain at Crested Butte, too -- in fact, this was our first visit outside of winter. We spend some time at the ski area for some downhill mountain biking, and do some hiking in Washington Gulch in Part II this Saturday. Zoe finally gets to fetch the ball, too. ;)

Enjoyed the video as usual. It's never miss with this channel! As far as having the extra bolts in case one shears, I wanted to mention that there are different grades of bolts out there. The higher the number on the bolt, the stronger it is. I hope this is the right video for that comment. I've been watching non-stop for a few now. Cheers!

Another professional quality video with beautiful photography and an excellent narrative. I know if may sound contradictory to asked about the cell phone signal when looking for a spot to get away from it all, but those pesky little smart phones do come in handy when doing an extended stay. You never know when you have to find a equalizer hitch part! Are you able to receive any signal in that area? Thanks.
@GrandAdventure
@GrandAdventure 6 жыл бұрын
Bruce H not contradictory at all, signal is a necessity for us if we're staying more than a night or two. Where we were, we needed the booster to get reliable Verizon 4G. Down in the meadow where most people camp signal was solid unboosted. And thanks for the kind compliments! I actually think Part II from Crested Butte which debuts this Saturday is our best effort yet.

First of all....Patricia “upstaged” ya at the beginning of the video. 😉 I know you have been asked about your camping chairs in past videos. In one of your videos you stated that they were purchased via “Whoa Nellie RV Adventures”, however when I tried looking, I was unable to find anything there. Am I missing something? In the meantime, my wife actually jumped ahead of me and purchased one for me through Camp World. 😎
@GrandAdventure

Yeah, you're missing something. ;) Whoa Nellie is another RV KZfaqr and friend of the channel. We bought ours through Camping World, although we've listed an identical chair at Amazon.com/shop/GrandAdventure.

Great video. Glad I came across it as we are planning going up Washington gultch (road 811). So how far up it did you go. I was hoping to go boondock near Anthracite Mesa.
@GrandAdventure
@GrandAdventure 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you Todd!, and we're thrilled to have you here! Our campsite was here: goo.gl/maps/aSj3AyKkgi32 . We did drive up to Anthracite Mesa, but unless you're only in a 4x4 with a truck camper I wouldn't recommend bringing any other kind of camping rig (trailer or motorhome), or a low-clearance vehicle up that far. There are a couple of steep stretches and a very tight turn here goo.gl/maps/czJJsBBpVz42 that I wouldn't bring any kind of RV other than a truck camper. Just beyond (west of) the 403 trailhead FR-811 becomes quite rough, too. We hiked up on Anthracite Mesa in part 2 of our visit to Crested Butte: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gt1_l9Zn3dTOgHU.html . In that episode you can see some of the road.

@@GrandAdventure Thanks so much for your info. Because of your info it will save me time scouting. I have dual sport motorcycles and a sxs in my Toy hauler. Your spot looks like our new plan. Also viewed part 2 and convinced me to try the downhill mountain biking. I did it before at Boyne Mountain, Michigan. And we are staying at the grand lodge for a two day break from boondocking. We are starting out at Dinner Station or Dorchester campground in Taylor park for 5 days first. We stayed at Lakeview campground in Taylor Park in 2017 which was nice.

Mark, what kind of camp chairs do you own? The ones I see in the video really look comfortable, not your typical uncomfortable looking camping chair.
@GrandAdventure

Steve, those things are über comfy! We got ours at Camping World where they call them "club chairs". We've put some essentially similar ones in our Grand Adventure Shop on Amazon www.amazon.com/shop/grandadventure .

You bet, Mary! There's a great little dump station right in town, operated by the town of CB: www.campendium.com/crested-butte-rv-dump-station It includes potable water and we used it ourselves on this trip. Enjoy Lake Irwin, it's beautiful up there!

Leonard Marlborough it's a 200W suitcase from Renogy, one of the few companies to make a 200W portable kit. We love it, I'm usually back at 100% battery by 10 am. There's actually an Amazon link (full disclosure: it's an affiliate link) under "Our RV" in each video description. We use that space to list products that we've bought and feel comfortable recommending.

@GrandAdventure
@GrandAdventure 5 жыл бұрын
@@gringo3009 that's ostensibly the justification that they are using. However, I know they previously closed Gothics Valley because the townspeople were concerned that the area was overrun with campers. I suspect that this decision has more to do with this than irresponsible camping. So they want to shoo everyone into established campgrounds instead.
