Hey, it's Teacher Kaye!
Many parents have asked me about their children's hand-flapping, spinning, shrieking, humming, etc.
Why do they do this? What can we do about it? SHOULD we do something about it?
These and other considerations in this video.
Nakaranas ba kayo ng ganito? Let me know, I'd love to help.
Happy talking, Mabuhay!

My son used to smell anything that you gave him, saka gsto din nya plagi na may hug and saying I love you (paulit-ulit) and telling him "good job," awesome or perfect! I observe mas lalo nya ginagalingan yung mga tasks nya! I remember, when I was still a student when I review my lesson, I used to walk around, at dpat may kausap ako. Mas nkkpag review ako nang mabuti pag ganun. Thanks for this information! Very helpful.

Thank you teacher Kaye. My son loves to jump a lot, if happy siya, and if he is playing. Parang jumping is a way for him to play. Kapag nanonood sya ng educational videos he jumps, pag nasa bed he jumps din pero happy siya while doing it. Maybe it is his way of playing and expressing his self that he is happy.

Yes, Zyrel Faye! Play can come in different forms, not just in tinkering with toys, but anything that makes them happy! Once we recognize that these behaviors ARE VALID, and ways that they communicate, we can connect with them better ✨ Thank you for being here!

I’m teary-eyed! So few people will tell us parents to let them be. My son is vestibular seeking .lakad nang lakad . Parang trumpo. And always saying some lines. I have found out this his way of learning how to use the lines in real conversation. Many people even practitioners would want them to stop stimming. I feel like masking will do them more harm than letting them be.

Hi Selly (are you Selly, or maybe someone else in your family?) Admittedly, some of our training involves managing behaviors that may deter from good attention or sitting; and if you don't properly assess the child's needs, we could fall into the trap of unnecessarily stopping some harmless stimming. I continue to learn more about Autism through my practice, and only even learned about the term "passing" this year! SO MUCH MORE TO LEARN, and more perspectives to explore. Interestingly, when I recently rewatched my Autism video from last year, I don't even have exactly the same views as I did then. So it's a process, even for me. So thank you for sharing this, it shows me even more the impact of how shifting mindset can be so important. You are so attuned to your son, I admire that you've found a way to utilize his stims into learning channels. You inspire me ✨

@@TeacherKayeTalks hi I’m Roselle. But some call me Selly. Thank you for taking the time to reply. My son is hyperlexic. Would read books and memorize things like logos, car brands, flags and among other things. This sometime his form of stimming. Some therapists say that they don’t have functional role in his language so I mustn’t encourage. He might be reading above his age level but he does not understand. This was a red flag for me. I always believe that we can work on the kids’ strengths to build the skills they are lacking. I found a speech therapist who were in the same page with me. So we agreed to use his reading skills to improve language. I used to put written instructions like “Open the door, “I want ____” . He would read it. I took out the written instructions when I observed that he already understand. Fast forward to now, he is 8, he could tell me now his feelings and thoughts and could remember things, that he used to do and explaining why he did that. A proof that back then he could understand but he couldn’t express yet.

Hello teacher kaye! Thanks sa videos m. I have a 4yr-old son who's diagnosesld with asd. Like mgcollect ng lots of toys na puro cars lng or puro barbie lng? Thanks in advance

Hi teacher kaye! I suspect my nephew has autism there are some red flags i observed and based on my mum's narratives becayse she is the one taking care my nephew. I tried to tell to the parents my brother that they might seek help with DP or expertise but they took it negative. I dont know if they suspect also or in denial or they just dobt know what is really happening to their child. Do u have vids for the parents how to not worry or could help them to be aware of with such topic

Teacher Kaye, thanks a lot. My son's has this stimming of humming and singing his favorite lullaby.
@TeacherKayeTalks
@TeacherKayeTalks 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Rogerlyn, usually ginagawa po nila yun until they feel regulated - until na-kuha nila yung kailangan nilang stimulation. So kailangan niyo pong obserbahan if yung need niya is the auditory stimulation, or the sensation of singing. So that before sya mag-lesson, nabigyan na sya ng time to regulate. Meron po bang OT yung bata? You may ask for specific suggestions to prepare your son for learning activities. Sana nakatulong ito! ✨

@TeacherKayeTalks
@TeacherKayeTalks 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Katy!

Hello Hazeline!

Hello Razzhel! Yes, that's possible meron siyang auditory seeking behavior. Usually kapag may ganito po akong clients, I try to use that as an advantage, and sing them more songs na may sagutan, para kunwari naguusap kami. Or kung may target word ako, I say it to them na may tono, para maalala nila, tapos try namin in different contexts (to help generalize the skill). Hope you can find ways to use her singing as a teaching / learning opportunity ✨

From your kwento lang Kaki, para ngang meron siyang olfactory and verbal seeking behaviors. Try to incorporate a SENSORY DIET in your lifestyle. Find something safe na pwede niya amuy-amuyin and allow him to do this any time he needs it, or in routines. Halimbawa, paggising, bigyan na ng stimulation, etc. Hope this helps! ✨

Hi Teacher Kaye! I have a 3 yr old daughter na medyo hyperactive pero tuwing wala syang ginagawa ay bigla na lang nag saside eyeing ng ilang segundo tapos babalik din sa sya normal na pagtingin...is this an eye problem or a disorder?

Hi Ronilo, I can't tell just from that description, kasi like I explained in this video, it is the repetitiveness and why you think they do it. To rule out an eye problem, pwede ring magpa-konsulta sa ophtha! Hope this helps!

Hi Inday, you can watch this video on replacing injurious behaviors: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jr2Yeaac16mWlHU.html and try to incorporate these techniques with a SENSORY DIET. Mukhang gusto ng batang pumisil, baka meron siyang proprioceptive seeking. Find something na pwede niya pisil-pisilin safely (stress ball, slime, plushie, atbp) and allow him to do this any time, or in routines. Halimbawa, paggising, bigyan na ng stimulation, etc. Hope this helps! ✨

Andito ang paliwanag kung anong nangyayari sa brains ng baby kapag nanonood ng videos: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hdOKqdClkpy-pZs.html Signs of Screen Addiction: instagram.com/p/CRJYfz7j_wq/ You can also watch this video on replacing injurious behaviors: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jr2Yeaac16mWlHU.html Hope these help!

Aha! Stimming pala un ginagawa ni baby. He likes to taste almost everything that is introduced to him. Or is it normal sa 9 mo old? Thank you as always,Teacher Kaye 👩‍🏫♥️👶🤙
@TeacherKayeTalks
@TeacherKayeTalks 2 жыл бұрын
For a 9-month old, I wouldn't call that stimming, I think baby may be at the oral stage (kung nagma-mouth pa siya ng toys, etc.) And especially since ilang months palang sila nagso-solid foods, talagang taste exploration pa yan, but I wouldn't necessarily call it a sensory issue (as in nagkukulang siya ng stimulus, kaya nya gusto subukan lahat). More of natural curiosity in babies! Thanks for allowing me to clarify this! ✨

Yes, need to see kung nakakatulong ba o nakakasama ang movements sa bata? - redirect only if nakakasama - make sure the child is in a safe space Eventually, pag lumaki ang bata, we can teach them alternative movements na mas maaari nilang gawin kapag nasa labas ng bahay, etc. na hindi rin makakasakit o hadlang sa iba (halimbawa, pag malaki na sila at paikot ikot sa labas, ay baka maka-bunggo atbp)

hi teacher ask ko sana about my son. he’s 13 months old he is not good on eye contact., not much responding to his name everytime especially everytime he watch on his ipad but if he wants me to change the music he will just grab my hand or look for my presence. sign po pa ung ang autism?
@TeacherKayeTalks
@TeacherKayeTalks 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Estefanie! It could be a sign of Autism, but it doesn't mean na Autism na ho agad, kasi maraming tinitignan sa bata bago siya madiagnose. Obserbahan ninyo kung meron pa siyang ibang ginagawa tulad dito: 6 Signs: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b9R-m5h1t53bkoU.html Sa tingin ko, dahil 13 months old palang siya, this is due to Screen Addiction. Babies from 0-2 years old should have no exposure to digital media like videos on TV or gadgets. See signs of screen addiction here -- speech delay and not looking when called are among these: instagram.com/p/CRJYfz7j_wq/ Sana po we can try stopping all screen time for an experimental period of at least 2 weeks, and observe for changes or improvement in behavior. No matter how short the time spent watching, no matter the content (whether we think it’s educational or not), if a child is already delayed or is showing atypical behaviors, best to remove the factors that could be contributing to it. See explanation of the effects of screen time to baby brains here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hdOKqdClkpy-pZs.html If gestures more than tries to speak, try these: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mbxnZ65lyt-Rl5s.html Adjust your household setup and habits to encourage more requesting: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ad2Ehbh7mN3Rf5c.html By around 12 months, the child should have their first word, and understand at least 10 words. You can also try these techniques: Respond to Name / Eye Contact kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pZ2farx8rL2XmKM.html Hope these help! ✨

Yes, Nina. Mukhang may taste seeking yung bata, and unfortunately, medyo dangerous yung stimming niya kasi pwede siyang magkasakit sa germs or bacteria! You can watch this video on replacing injurious behaviors: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jr2Yeaac16mWlHU.html Try to incorporate these techniques with a SENSORY DIET. Mukhang gusto ng batang may nalalasahan lagi, or stimulation sa bibig? Find something na pwede niya dilaan safely (lollipop, sugar-free candies para hindi naman magkadiabetes or mabulok ang ngipin, atbp.) and allow him to do this any time, or in routines. Halimbawa, paggising, bigyan na ng stimulation, etc. Hope this helps!

Hello teacher, it’s out of topic but my toddler speaks straight now she is stuttering . Is this stress related?
@TeacherKayeTalks
@TeacherKayeTalks 8 ай бұрын
Hello Sereen! All topics of speech and language are welcome here ☺️ There are no clear causes of stuttering, but it is usually a combination of factors including: - heredity (someone in the family also stutters) - neurological (brain-related differences) - lifestyle (fast-paced, or sudden changes in routine) However, from 2 to 6 years old, meron talagang phase when children are still mastering language, that they may encounter some stuttering. Please observe if it persists beyond 6 months, and if parang affected na yung bata (like meron na siyang negative feelings about talking, or avoids talking na altogether). Tips for you: don't draw attention to the stutter. Just repeat the words she tries to say: e.g., "I w-w-w-want milk" just say "You want milk, here!" in a slightly slower but FLUID manner (don't segment, as in you.want.milk). Medyo mahirap i-explain through text haha, I have been meaning to make a video about this. Hope this helps until then. ✨

Thank you for responding back to me@@TeacherKayeTalks. we try as parents to help her sa stuttering. Like your examples. It just started that she begins to stutter Kaya nag worry ako at the same time an hurt all with other family members started to notice it and I feel like she is stressed when they instructed her to “speak slowly”😟 I'll observe her more often. And see if she needs to consultation 😊

Hi Anne!
