I have been researching the First Gen Sequoia and am close to buying one. I want to do some limited off roading and some hauling. I've watched some of your videos. Thanks for those. So, my questions: I want to get some lift but not a lot. Maybe 1.5 to 2.5 inches up on 4 corners. More interested in towing ability and a firmer ride. Would new shocks like the Bilstein 5100's in front do the trick? Will I need to upgrade the suspension too? In the rear, would air bags inserted into the coils do the trick? I don't necessarily want to mess with the anti-sway bars. Maybe newer, stouter coils for the rear would help too. I want the truck level at all times, maybe slightly higher in the rear when not loaded. I'd like to be able to tow maybe up to 5,000#. I get that you like a rear diff lock for 3 way locking but I am not sure I will need that as I don't plan to do tough off road stuff. Are 10 ply tires recommended for towing? thanks a lot and happy trails!!

Nice video! My air suspension on my 2006 Sequoia works intermittently and gets very bumpy at times. Hoping to solve the problem with just replacing shocks. I love you're videos. You have inspired me to make my 02 ac tundra more trail worthy. I've have always wanted a double cab 1st gen for awhile. My question is should I keep my ac or get a double cab. I'm worried i will be limited with want I can do offroad with a db because of the bad turning radius and longer wheel base. I travel on narrow rocky trails in colorado. The problem with the ac is the back seat is getting to small for my daughter but she rarely rides in the back, maybe twice a year when I take the family camping. What would you do?
@1stgenoffroad655
@1stgenoffroad655 5 жыл бұрын
Hey bud, glad you like the videos. The dc is wider, taller, longer, heavier, and as you mentioned, has a terrible turning radius. I love my dc, but I live in Texas and use mine in mud and sand on the beach, wide open spaces. If I needed a trail rig for Colorado, I’d go with an AC. There’s still plenty of room in the back for your daughter and you’ll have a much more agile rig for all those rocks, low hanging branches and tight turns.

Oh man. Could be tie rod ends, the hub, alignment, unbalanced tire. Lots of things. But the weak spot for these trucks are the lower ball joints. They're a couple hundred dollars and about an hour of time to change. If you don't know the history, I'd replace. And only replace with OEM.

Yeah, that’s a great question and I meant to address it in the video but the quick video was already getting too long. The OME shocks are a little stiffer but not harsh. I thought the truck would corner like a drunk elephant after I removed the link. But honestly, I can’t really tell the difference. Probably the new shocks are a little stiffer. I’m happy with it for sure. As of now, I have no plans to replace the link I cut off.

Howdy from Texas! Glad you like the video series. Like and subscribe. I have several more on the way. When I cut off the sway bar link, I was initially concerned that it would corner like a drunk elephant and I was trying to decide if I wanted to replace it with a quick disconnect or not. But after driving it, I have to say that I can’t tell a difference. It handles just fine. I haven’t noticed any increased body roll. And at this point I have no plans to replace it. Got a question I put a 2.5 inch lift on my 05. The entire front end except upper control arms have been replaced including steering rack. The vehicle is very darty on the road you have to stay constantly locked in on steering. Would you guys think it need adjustable uppers for more caster. I know someone has ran into this the front end is completely new (except upper) and drives like crap fully in spec alignment wise.
@1stgenoffroad
@1stgenoffroad Жыл бұрын
We will always recommend aftermarket upper control arms for any lift over 2". I like SPC UCAs for their adjustability. When the steering is twitchy, it is likely a caster problem. Caster changes when you lift a vehicle and the higher you lift it the more caster change you get. Google search the effects that caster has on oversteering. SPC upper control arms will correct the caster and get it back where you need it to be. Link for SPC UCAs: www.1stgenoffroad.com/store/p146/SPCUCAs/Tundra/Sequoia.html

Hey Paul, the front will work the same as mine. And the rear will work too but you’ll need to do a couple more things. Basically pull the old shocks, air bags and pump. Pull the fuses that service the pump and height sensor (so you don’t throw a code/dash light). Install the new longer spring and spring. But you’ll need a spring seat insulator to accommodate the new spring. I don’t sell those on the website, but I link to them on the “favorites” page in the website. www.1stgenoffroad.com/our-favorites.html#/

The front ends at exactly the same. Anything that will work on a tundra Tony end will work on a sequoia front end. The rear is totally different. Why not cut down those bolts instead of the washer stack? The manual lists those as a non-reusable parts. I picked up 5 bolt/washers for $20 at the dealer. Thanks for the video, I’m not crying foul, just trying to add to the knowledge.

Is the locker going to affect the ATRAC? In your video the rear wheel spins when you loose drop on the shock, shouldn't the ATRAC have corrected that and applied the brake to rear wheel and direct power to the non-spinning rear wheel? Or was that for demo purposes? Also, did you change the springs in the rear as well?
@1stgenoffroad
@1stgenoffroad 6 жыл бұрын
Hey buddy. I have a 04. ATRAC didn’t happen until 05. Good point though. I could have applied the brake and gas and that would have shifted some power from one wheel to the other. I didn’t do that. The locker will probably be a Harrop E locker.

1stgenoffroad not to be a ass but im pretty sure all sequoia has atrac. I have a 02 limited that has atrac as you can see in my video. Just stick in 4L and low gear and injoy. Dont let off gas pedal when tire spin and let the atrac do its job. Now go out there and try it.
