Aberystwyth bigs itself up!
Hello and welcome to the Great British Biking Adventures Coast Series. In this series we are travelling around the coast on our motorcycle, a Honda VFR1200X Crosstourer.
A lot of our viewers are bike enthusiasts but this series will appeal to a wider audience. Why? Because there’s so much more to the Coast series than motorcycles. There’s the challenges, the journey, geography, history and people. You get to travel the entire coast of England and Wales with us, see how we did it, share our ups and downs, experience English culture, the history and hear about the people that made Britain ‘Great’!
What’s also good about the coast series is it doesn’t matter when you start watching, it’s like one of those open top bus tours - you can get on at any point and just keep going until you arrive back where you started.
Who are we? We’re a husband & wife living in an unremarkable coastal town in England. We’ve been married 35 years and were brought together by motorcycles. One day, Esther’s Honda Melody broke down and she brought it to Jarrod’s motorcycle shop - the rest (as they say) is history.
One cold February day, we started riding along the seafront and just kept going. We wanted to record the experience to have something to watch in the future - the KZfaq channel was an afterthought. Take a look at those first few episodes to see just how novice we were, cobbling together what little phone footage we had to try to make a story. To make up for our amateur recording and shyness we added information in the editing. This set the tone and style of our videos, we hope you like it. We like to think we’ve improved and hopefully you’ll agree, take a look, compare our earlier videos with the later ones and let us know in the comments.
There’s also the filming and production journey. When we started we knew nothing about filming, video and audio production, editing, KZfaq and the like. We’ve learnt loads and spent loads in time and money along the way but it’s been almost as enjoyable as the journey itself. You’ll hopefully appreciate how far we’ve come.
But what’s with all those bible verses we hear you say. We know some of you don’t appreciate this aspect, one or two have told us in the comments! That’s fine - it really is. All are equally welcome here, believers and unbelievers. It would be a pity if you enjoyed everything else but just stopped watching because of the Christian references but we completely accept you’re free to do as you please.
Our faith has prompted us to include a bible verse in our videos and sometimes a Christian perspective on the things we talk about. The channel is not about Christianity but our faith cannot be separated from it. We hope and pray that it will make you think, inquire and even bring you into a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

I stumbled across your channel and have been binge watching ever since, its amusing for me as a native welsh motorcyclist who has travelled many of the roads and visited the towns you have so diligently researched, which is the source of my amusement as you know far more about them than I, so thank you both for educating me lol. I may be biased but Wales has it all for motorcyclists to enjoy so thank you for sharing your experiences with your growing You Tube Community ...... roll on Episode 66

Thankyou for this. It’s really ensconcing. My daughter went to uni in Aber and became a lovely ride to place. Its really endearing when you get to know it, but if uni ever closes it will decay to a slum

Another thoroughly enjoyable vlog. West Wales south of Aberystwyth is my favourite part of the Welsh coastline. Look forward to the next installment.🙂👍

What a lovely coastline it is, but a bit of challenge to convey it in a road trip because of the lack of coast roads. But what there was we travelled!!!

Fascinating story to the ex-hotel. I wonder what happened to all the people who ran & owned it pre-war? That bungalow/hotel was a right win, such a shame the weather was bad and you 'had' to stay another night 🤣 Yikes, the next episode looks a little stressful 🙈

I think Aberystwyth has always 'thought big' even before the university established itself. That's how it ended up with 2 huge buildings on the seafront. Also, you have to imagine they were there before virtually anything else! Problem is that such 'big ideas' often end up being unmanageable and ultimately unsustainable. We had a lovely stay but couldn't do more than 2 nights 😄. See you next week 😉

Hi Hayley, great to hear from you. You watched all the vids!!!😳. Well done and thank you, but you must be sick of the sight of us?😆 Well done for passing your test. I see your first bike was a Yamaha SR125 (or was it a copy?). I used to work in the bike industry and we were selling those in the 80's! You never forget your first bike and for most people it evokes very fond memories. I've not had the pleasure of riding one but the Himmy looks like a great bike. But remember, it's not just about the bike but the adventures! Welcome aboard, we look forward to hearing from you again soon.

Always good to see your offerings, but thanks for this one in particular, especially with the Gwbert connection; that hotel was my base with the coach during the 2008 season, and I have pleasant memories of that little tour, especially playing with the dolphins in my kayak on my days off! Thanks for reigniting my interest in Wales. 👍

Hi Martin, hope you are well? You were based there? Were you resident? We got to know several staff members and bumped into them outside their residential quarters. Not a bad gig if you can't afford your own place - work and lodgings in a great location. Wales is a lot more accessible for us than say Scotland but we're determined to get there this year!!!

I had a room in the main hotel on the weeks I was there, in between Northumberland tours. Must've been 2006 when I think about it. Just one big paid holiday for me! Just preparing for a YT trip to Royal Deeside in a couple of weeks time (one of my winter tour bases) Keep them coming you two, and stay safe. 😎

Life as a coach driver / tour guide sounds great. I had to Google Royal Deeside, looks lovely, looking forward to the videos. We were hoping to broadly capture it all in one 2 week trip but starting to think Scotland might have to be done in several stages.

Well yes, that'd be one heck of a two week trip! 😅 It'll take some long rides from your neck of the woods, but it's a spectacular country with lots of stories. 😎

That’s put me in a good mood for the weekend. Here in Leeds tomorrow is showing sun and 18c. Thank goodness. It’s been a wetter than wet first quarter of the year. He’s hoping for some dry warm days. Keep up the good work. Still wondering where your next epic tour will be?? 👍👍

Glad you enjoyed it, even though there wasn't a lot of drama or particularly great roads this week. Tried to make up for it with a bit of interest and the hotel at the end. Sun and 18c in Leeds!!! That's about as mediterranean as it gets for the north, isn't it? If it's any consolation, it's been a miserable winter down south. Had a few good days this last week and the bike finally came out today - put a smile on my face 😁. We really need to start planning the next trip but busy trying to get to the end of the coast series.
