Make an oo sound as if you were to do a whistle. Step 1: shape your mouth in the smallest 'oo' you can do with only a small opening in your mouth. Step 2: i found that doing this staccato is best. Basically sing a narrow oo that is short, sharp and detached rather than a long connected oo. Hope that helps.

M a light lyric baritone and my flageolet starts around G5 B5 to B7, so m afraid thats a falsetto you are doing and not a flageolet moreover, Vitas does a c#6 in opera #2, if u do that song then thats the start of 6th octave....his most "high"notes r in 6th and above octaves....maybe u sing The 7th Element song....

Oh Justin.... I was just watching some of these older lessons again and I quickly remembered how much I love you xD I've commented on other videos about this before, but thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for undoubtedly being the absolute best singing resource I have ever found online. You helped me in so many ways and I truly appreciate it so, so much! No one else explains singing on such a level that is both technical but also made so very simple! You just really know how to focus on all the right things and make learning feel like a breeze :) and then, to top it off, you have this refreshing humor that just makes everything you say feel more cheerful and inviting. So thank you again!!! AHH!

It is possible that this is giving your vocal muscles a bit of a workout, but It shouldn't hurt. If it does, it suggests to me that you are perhaps trying to be too loud. The secret is about how quiet you can make the sound. Imagine a volume button on a sterio that is turned down. There is no sound. As you slowly rotate the button to increase the volume on your sterio, what you hear is a sound gradually increasing from nothing. Take the 'nothing' aspect of the volume button as your breath - your exhale. As you turn the button to introduce sound, before sound comes YOUR BREATH - the 'H' that Justin speaks about. How quietly can you introduce / produce sound? I would start on a comfortable note practicing this, not high because when we get into high territory, the muscles in our neck and jaw tend to massively constrict - until we can comfortably reach those notes with any kind of power. So we have to start light, with the breathy sound. If you try the volume button technique and find you are struggling to gradually introduce/produce your sound, by this I mean you go from exhale breath to a sudden quite strong sound, ie you seem unable to produce a really really quiet sound, like the volume button gradually being turned up analogy, then it is a sign your vocal cords, ie your voice, is not at its optimum. One good way to help recovery is continuing to try the volume button tool to the sound NG (as in sing), ensuring you are relaxed in the process. Any tension will cause constriction and this, ultimately, does not help. As Justin says, if you keep on practicing to where the limits of your voice can currently go, it WILL increase over time. Practice a little every day and be patient. You will get there! :D

For a while, on smule, I focused on chest voice, averaged about 10 loves per song, and get one with more than a hundred loves once every 1 or 2 months. A little more than a week ago, I started focusng on improving at falsetto, and brought my average up to 30-50 loves per song, 3 or 4 with more than 100 each day. 5 days ago I joined a duet for "what awonderful world", sung with high notes, and it is over 1200 loves and climbing!

From around which note does the flageolet register begin? I’m curious because I can reach until B5 and I don’t know if I’m supposed to call that a head voice or a flageolet.
@joshbrucks
@joshbrucks 5 жыл бұрын
b5 would be falsetto or flageolet most likely. i think head voice only reaches around g4.
@GoaterKensei

Really? My head voice reaches G#5 and I’m a male (and its not falsetto lol) my falsetto only reaches E6 my Flageolet reaches B7.

Kara Harrington From falsetto no I think? Head voice (in male terms) you can mix to chest voice
@colinnachos6434
@colinnachos6434 7 жыл бұрын
Nope, it's sadly impossible. Chest is a connected register, meaning your vocal chords are touching. Falsetto is a register in which the vocal chords are disconnected, and so transitioning from a disconnected register to a connected register will result in a break, as the vocal chords need to reconnect. However, falsetto's "sister" (as I like to call it) is known as head voice. Head Voice is very similar to falsetto in that they both resonate in the head. Head Voice is a connected register. Therefore, you can transition from Head voice to chest voice with no break/crack since they're both connected registers (similar to how you can transition from Whistle to falsetto with no break since they're both disconnected registers). Hope this helped!

I see what you mean about using this register to hit the high notes in Queen of the Night. I was trying to use the same muscles for all of my notes and it was much more painful to go for anything above a high C with that so I was putting strain on my voice and burning it out! Thank you for pointing me to this video!
