I’ve only rode through orange walk on the bus. I ended moving to boring, but safe, and dry Belmopan lol My favorite city mainland so far is actually San Ignacio. My family moved to Belize this year (my uncles had lived here before). Belize is sweet. I do love how it’s a melting pot and how easy I blend in.

You said it right, Belize is SO SWEET!! Orange Walk is boring and safe too. We loved San Ignacio a lot because it was bigger than Orange Walk but still small enough to feel very comfortable. The melting pot feeling is amazing. Until we talk, no one knows we’re not Belizean lol! It’s great that you have family there. That’s definitely a part that was missing while we were there. We can’t wait to get back. Hopefully you’re still living there and maybe we can connect and hang out! Enjoy your new home! 💜Dee

I have a friend from Orange walk and I went with them to visit a couple of times staying with family. The People were kind and generous, the food was off the chain and the country is beautiful. Everything’s very affordable!I am seriously considering retiring or living there for a while at least. The roads are terrible however and there are no big box stores or restaurants. if you don’t eat when the restaurants that are there are open you have to wait until the evening when some of them will open up again. It’s a pretty nice place and everybody does seem to know everybody. I was very sad when I had to come back to the states where the pace is faster and people are rude for no reason at all.

Hey neighbor! Convincing your hubby gets easier the more you travel and really surround yourself in the culture and energy of the place. Meet some locals and eat local food and use public transportation to get a real feel for the area. Also, when you're traveling, don't fill all your time doing excursions and tours. That way you won't overspend by going to all the tourist traps and you also will have time to actually relax and enjoy the area. Last piece of advice is to pick places that you're both interested in visiting. Good luck and let us know how your travels go 💜Dee

AWW man I missed the yoga class. I was sick with COVID and I forgot about it. Shoot you make me want to come there and get some contracts lol
@blackabroad
@blackabroad 2 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear you had covid but I'm sure she will have another session soon! We discussed that opportunity but it's not that the Belizean's don't have access to technology. Once you get on Google and put up your times and menu's that obligation quickly goes from your own business to a job. The technology is for tourists and the locals understand the buz concepts. These are small family owned businesses ran out there homes. You get big now u have to get a store front, hire people, and make sure you have everything on the menu. Belizean's give me the feel that they just need enough to sustain and not get big and be poppin. These people own their time! So we feel it's just something we need to adapt to. We've left all our ideas from the states in the states and it has helped us find autonomy and truly connect with the culture and the way of thinking living abroad. Great comment and we appreciate all the comments it does wonders for the algorithm. I can tell you've watched all our videos and we greatly appreciate the support thanks so much Brandie! -Eric

There are laws about expats being employed. Any business owned by expats must employ Belizean citizens. That's how they protect their people, which is smart. You could start a consulting business, but you'll need to check the laws first.

@blackabroad
@blackabroad 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Megan! That’s a great question! During this first part of our travels, we didn’t bring the kids. We didn’t want to disrupt their school schedule and we also wanted to scope out the area and get some experience with international travel (outside of whack ass cruises lol) before we brought the kids. And I think that was best because trying to navigate that with the boys would’ve be super tough!! Now that we’ve done that and visited a few places and decided on Belize, we’re bringing the boys for a few weeks at the end of the year or the top of next year so they can experience it and see how they feel in that environment. Like you, the language barrier was a real concern so then speaking English is such a plus for me bringing the kids down. And In the meantime, we’re all learning Spanish to be able to communicate better in Latin America. Please keep in touch and let us know how your abroad plans are going. We will give any tips and advice we have!! 💜Dee

@blackabroad
@blackabroad 2 жыл бұрын
We loved them both! Belize immediately felt like home from the culture, language, people, and the lack of infrastructure and material. Belize aligns with our ideals in our search for autonomy. Panama is a beautiful place and it's definitely an easier transition from the 🇺🇸. Outside of the language barrier it has infrastructure, American franchises, culture and just everything you need and want. Expats have infiltrated some of the culture and economy in Panama and it almost defeats the purpose of us leaving the states. Belize covers our basic needs and forces us to become more self sustainable which is what we desire. As far as our wants, we just want to be free and we just want each other! Thanks for your support Darnell and we plan on doing a video about the difference in Panama and Belize soon! Any other place its the lighter Panamanians who prefer the align themselves with European beauty standards. So you do stand out in Panama and I don't like that. So im now looking at Belize and other locations where people are not dying to look white

Hey there! I just came across this video. I currently live in Hawaii. I am seriously thinking about moving to Belize. Where can I start looking for houses for rent / for sale? How does one make money living there? I work with Marriot so I can transfer to their hotel there, but Im worried about my boyfriend and my family who will need to get jobs. I am hoping to get a 4 bedroom house for us to live in.
@blackabroad
@blackabroad 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Seva!! Hawaii looks so beautiful on all the pics and videos I’ve seen. What a paradise! But I hear it’s expensive, so I can definitely understand the desire to move. Belize has inexpensive housing, especially in the smaller or more rural areas like Orange Walk or Ladyville. It’s hard to find places from across the pond, but the best way we’ve found is through Facebook Marketplace. But honestly, it’s best to go down there and either find properties by driving through areas looking for rent or sale signs, talking to the locals, hiring a realtor. I’d suggest taking a visit to spend some time in the cities you’re thinking about so you can live in them and see if they’re a fit. As far as work, that’s the toughest part of it. I work remotely but i have to do it in the US so that’s not an option if I’m abroad. It takes time and money to get a work permit in Belize, so that’s part of what’s delaying our return. It looks like the best option is to do digital freelance work. Once we figure that part out, we’ll definitely post a video about how to navigate the employment process in Belize. Thanks so much for watching and keep following as we grow through this process together! Reach out with any other questions 💜Dee

I was enjoying the info until the N word. Great energy, plus two intelligent beings, but that is not a universal word for all of us. I am leaving to get away from people who have that mentality of lack. Lack of class, lack of respect and to me that word ties into that way of being. The glorifying of the "hood' lifestyle. The traps laid for us by American Colonizers after the 60s. A clear reflection of our downfall and how we not just accept it, but embrace it. No hate, just saying this is a universal format and referring to himself as anything less than the god or king he us is unfortunate. So much potential once you know who you are and an N word is not it! Thanks for putting out the information. Many of us need it to make final decisions.
