ep22 | my first Ukrainian embroidered blouse

This is my first attempt at embroidering and sawing together a traditional Ukrainian embroidered blouse. The sleeves were embroidered by my grandma in cross-stitch with a pattern from the mountain region in the west of Ukraine. It has a modern raglan sleeve.
The fabric used is Zweigart Murano, milky white.
Embroidery thread - 100% cotton from DMC.

*such* exquisite work, and i love the continuation of both your cultural connections and the relationship with your grandmother -- my grandmother passed away 15 years ago, but she was a MASTER crocheter, and one of these days i need to learn the craft better, if only to reconnect with some of her amazing work again...

fabulous! I have wanted to embroider a Ukrainian/Eastern European blouse for many years. Someone sent me a book about 4 years ago on embroidery patterns. I have not been able to find an actual pattern or material to use, as all of the information I have found is in Russian or Ukrainian and I don't speak either of these languages. So, this is great, as your video gives a little more info on how. Hopefully you will be able to share more with your next blouse project. Your knit designs are equally amazing!

The blouse is really nice. I don't know how your tradition dictates, but I would skip the neckleces over this nice embroidery. I know cross stiches ans sowing, and I understand how much wark is invested in this blouse. Congrats!!

Thank you for this video, I love your Vyshyvanka, the complex pattern! I would love to learn this art and I admire deeply the wonderful Ukrainian patterns and styles of folk costums. Is yours a Hutsul style embroidery?

Thank you very much! Yes, I am half hutsul and the pattern is reminiscent of hutsul style yet done with cross stitch since my other grandma is from another part of the country and embroiders in that technique 🤗

The name in ukrainian is Чарівні візерунки by Люба Гавур - there are 4 parts of this book if I’m not wrong, but it’s difficult to find, all sold out.

This one was cut out as a raglan by professional seamstress. My next one I’m working on right now will be from rectangles. There are plenty of schematics/patterns on Pinterest 🤗

Can I ask you how you did the center front neck opening? I’m starting my first vyshyvanka and it looks like it should be faced on the inside but I’m not sure how people usually finish that edge, if that makes sense?

Hi, if I understand correctly your question, this is the technique I used (mine is different but you will get the idea) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ZptxhdxiyrreaKM.html. There are a few more other options, but I think if done correctly this one is nice.
