This week we shadow our hod carrier Rob. We dive into what is expected of him in a average working day. We expect the lads to work hard but in turn we look after them. Hod carrying isn't easy, in this video you will see why.

Rob is a king🔱🔱, treat him well and buy him some gloves. I was a hod carrier in the late 80's, the day i started on a small doctors surgery, i was loading out 8inch solid concrete blocks, everything was wheel barrow, ladder hod, shoulder and 50kg bags of cement, however i would still say scaffolders are top of the site food chain though. Great videos sir👍👍. Ps, it is easier to babysit three 2 year olds than 2 brickies😁.

Hello, just watched this out of interest, around 35 yeras ago i was a hod carrier- we used to hod the muck and the bricks, carry up ladders, even to the gable. Money was good but you earnt it!! Fair play to anyone who is prepared to work these days, but it does seem alot easier!!

agree a bricklayer is only as good as his hod carrier, yet there's no such thing as a hod carrier today. that's old school

Any young person watching this. If you can try to be an electrician or plumber it is worth it.Don't bother about bricklaying or being a hod carrier. I have been a hod carrier for over 30 years. It is very physical and you will only end up with a bad back and joint problems. That is the best advice I can give. I know you need gcse's to be an electrician but it is worth it. 😊

My horrifying memory of a hod carrier was when he slid down a wooden ladder with his feet either side, his boot caught a splinter in the ladder which quickly turned into a spike and went straight through his calf!

I've been on the trowel 27 years , prior to that I was on the hod for 10 years , everything was up the ladder , 50 kg bags of cement unloaded off the delivery lorry by hand. I used to prefer loading out and spent the day running up and down the ladder with a hod of bricks . My Mrs used to moan like hell that I'd fall asleep by 7 pm for an hour. I'd say I enjoyed it more than laying bricks but money talks.

I was on the hod and gave up after 5 years. Everything up the ladder, mix own muck then into dumper and drop on a big board. Then load the spot boards. The brickies can help a bit at times but some don’t. There’s no way I would have time to joint up or start to lay bricks in my days work. I hope the days wage gets split 3 ways? You can’t lay without your top man. Good on him but years ago it was hell. Although looking back it was a laugh at times.
