**DISCLAIMER** WHEN I MENTION A GRIMOIRE AS "SET IN STONE" I MEAN A SPECIFIC SYSTEM OF MAGICK THAT IS MEANT TO BE SOLID, STABLE AND POTENTIALLY DISPERSED.
Throughout the ages there has been written recording of events, stories, findings, recipes for both medicinal and simple enjoyment of consumption whether foods or alcohol, and discoveries from things mythical and unbelievable, to modern day typical happenings that have been being performed for centuries and now just a common spot in everyday life. Cultures have developed and been writing documents and books for thousands of years, and will continue for as long as we inhabit this planet. The Magick societies, wizards and witches are no different. For centuries our magickal ancestors have written down their healing recipes, and incantations. They’ve recorded the spells and rituals that work so as to keep a consistency and a know how for the years to come, as well as train their next generation of magickal practitioners for future endeavors. In this episode of Witch N’ the Working we are gonna take a look at what we have come to know as a Book of Shadows and break it down, tear it apart and jump into it. So without further ado….. I've been teaching myself to stay on my path. I'm one of the Ancient Ones. I truly feel this connection in my soul & heart. Sigh, but my family keeps putting down my way of life. This weekend they stormed my home, threw all my crystals on the floor, knocked off everything on my kitchen counters, busted my window. The more that I try in this old world, the more I get rejected from it. I cleaned up the mess an carried on. Because that's who I am, I'm a cleaner. I'm trying to clean the bs up that most people leave lying around, whether it's physical objects or just negative energies. Well, maybe one day my family will see who I am, & all the good things that I've tried to do for them?! It's a lonely life sometimes just trying to be me. I love all your vids. Okay, you never cease to amaze, but constantly loving you your channel and teachings more and more, I have been keeping a book of morrors for decades and never knew that's what it was. I had always been confused on the book of shadows being a solitaire witch mostly, you cleared that and love the idea of a bnder and create your own make it personal stunning. You know I learn more from you then anyone else and I am a HPs Lightworker and Shaman I am floored no wonder I brag about you Namaste dear friend.

I would like to clarify a thought I shared during the premiere's live chat. I mentioned that - Back in the day, when a Witch crossed the bridge to Summerland, that Witch's BOS was burned. By back in the day, I meant before the repeal of the Witchcraft Act. It was customary for Coven mates to burn the BOS of another Coven mate who died to avoid embarrassment or even persecution to that Witch's family. I did not suggest that in modern times a Witch's BOS (or any book) should be burned as a customary practice. I believe that aforementioned dynamic is one of the reasons why modern practitioners of the Craft of the Wise are left with fragments from, oh let's say medieval times. This is why people like GBC, Doreen Valiente, etc. filled in the blanks. It is also why Wicca is not a practice of unyielding dogma; rather, it is flexible. Another great episode Mannun. I enjoyed the discussion on the Book of Mirrors... This is something I've always done in my mind. Not sure why I never thought to write these thoughts down as a reflection of my Practice. BB.

Loved this video, never knew what to put my book under, its a mixture of sabbats, spells, recipes, witch quotes I like, about my path, spell recordings, divination tools I use etc a brief history on witchcraft trials so it keeps being remembered. All my book references that l keep going back too and the few witch vlogs I trust. Mannun, your mentioned in mine. Xxx

Luv you videos. I'm not Wiccan but I Love to learn. I have been a Witch since I was 15, I'm 44 now and I live near Savannah which I love, but so hard to find like minded ppl. Brilliant video as always. I have my BOS and about a million other note books with bits and bobs written in it. I then go through those books and take what I want from them and write it in my BOS. It used to really bother me that I couldn’t move the papers around inside it but I’ve learned that my book isn’t meant to be like that. This way it shows my learning path. I just write down what I’ve learned on each consecutive page. When I read back through it I can clearly see how I’ve changed as a person which I think is worth something too. I’m definitely not an artist by any means but my book is a mixture of writing and my hand drawings, I think you can get more of a “feel” for something with a drawing no matter how badly it’s drawn :) Thanks for a brilliant video and I love your set up.

I adore my Book! As an artist, I put my own spin on it and illustrate the pages. I've taken to using watercolor paper, and I sew or glue leather tabs on to the pages with holes punched in them so I can add to my post-bound book. I do have my book split into two volumes. One is my "ritual book" that has all of the spells and rituals I do, and some recipes that are applicable. The other has all of the "how to" with explanations of how things work, and correspondences. I do also use a book of mirrors, but that's much more simple.

Thank you so much for this video. I'm on my 2nd BOS I wrote myself. I also have a book of ruins and a book of each of the Sabbaths. I have a whole section dedicated to the moon phase and anything about the moon.. as well as a recipe book on herbs I grow and wild herbs around me. Stones and crystals too😁

Yes.... It's a huge setup. When I shoot a video it's with professional equipment that takes waaaaay too long to setup and tear down. Needed a permanent studio so to speak.

I have a BOS and it's a 3 ring Binder well actually I have 3 because of how long I have been in witchcraft and how much I have learned and I think there a great way of keeping track of everything and I really appreciate that you are talking about using them as a Book of Shadows most of the people on KZfaq talk about buying the most expensive books out in the market!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got a Trapper Keeper from my sister for Christmas... (Remember those?? 😂) It's my new BOS. As for the Book of Mirrors idea, Bewitching.Bemused has created one (that you fill out and she's included all the same pieces of information you suggested to record) that's similar to what you're discussing here. She sells it on Amazon and a Daily Divination Journal that are both good. I recommend.👍

We have to look at the meaning and names of things. To me, a book of shadows doesn't necessarily have to have anything to do with magic, but it also can. I attribute it to jung and Gardner with their teachings on shadow work. I see a book of shadows as a witches personal journal that they constantly add to. A grimoire is exclusively a book of magic. It's not set in stone and can be changed, but usually isn't because its spells that work well for the witch (if it aint broke, dont fix it), it also doesnt have to be for the masses. I personally only deal in grimoires and am currently writing one for my family, but that is because i personally dont believe in journaling. To me, we should be keeping things in our head where they belong. Our innermost self is ours, and it's very dangerous to put that in writing. I think the idea of the grimoire is the real deal, while this hype around the book of shadows (im talking about mainstream, not witches personal writings) is just more made up stuff to make wiccans look fancier than the rest of us lol. Although at the same time, ceremonial magicians have been trying to hype up the grimoire as well to make themselves seem edgy lol.

I have four book of Shadows and a book of mirrors and a grimoire however I am trying to put all of the book of Shadows together into one or make them a book of Shadows for each section and season because than I won't have them repeated in all four books of Shadows that is what I think I will do is to pull all of the information that is the same and put it into the first one than the second one, I will continue more information until I get all four book of Shadows filled up because this way it isn't all repetitive information in the four book of Shadows. I have to take the information that I have on my digital book of Shadows and put it into my hard copy book of Shadows. I have three digital book of Shadows too. I may have more than the number of book of Shadows that I said above. I lost count and as soon as I get into a bigger and more permanent place to live to bring my witchling home to than I will be able to really know how many book of Shadows I actually have.

@@juliereminiec4937 for the Maiden question... I think beginner witch is a great term, or novice like I mention in the video. A maiden in Wicca is the assistant of the High Priestess in Gardnerian Wicca anyways. Just like the assistant to the High Priest is called a Summoner.

No.... Never said that. Maybe I said that I'm not gonna film inside a unit without giving it an environment..... Hence a studio.... That's what a studio is, an area that is decorated and then you film in it.
