Sanctuary is the the first part in what will be an ongoing periodic series dedicated primarily to those who suffer with PTSD. If you don't suffer with PTSD, of course you are still welcome to enjoy this video. However, it is my goal to provide those that suffer not only with ASMR and relaxation, but with a sense and feeling of safety and security.
This is a traditional, non-role play / non-performing video, where I am simply myself and help reassure the viewer by reassuring them that they are safe throughout the video, while I use various methods such as hand movements and tapping on objects to induce ASMR and provide relaxation and sleep.
I've heard from various individuals that suffer with PTSD stating how much my videos have helped them relax and sleep, so it's time to do one specifically for them to see if perhaps ASMR can be used as a kind of therapy tool. I was bullied as a kid and teen in grade school and high school, though not on a severe day to day basis. However I was called names, pushed around, spit on and the final traumatic event where, after standing up to a bully one day after being picked on, I was sucker-punched right outside of school and had my jaw fractured in 2 places and had it wired shut for 6 weeks. I'm only mentioning this in this video's description, not to play the sympathy card, but so that people that suffer can understand that I also understand what it's like to go through a personal hell, even though what I went through may not be as severe as PTSD. Now that I've found peace in my life in my 40's. I want to start giving peace back to those who need it, which is the primary intent of this video.
If you suffer from PTSD, I would like to ask if you could provide some feedback in the comments or send me a message directly here on KZfaq and let me know if this worked for you, what didn't work, if there is something you would like me to say or do next time that I didn't do in this video, and anything else that you think might help you and others.
Stay well, no matter who you are.
- E. R.

What is ASMR? Why am I whispering?
ASMR stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response and is the current name given to the feeling characterized as a pleasurable tingling sensation felt in the head, scalp, back and other regions of the body in response to visual, auditory, tactile, olfactory, and/or cognitive stimuli, such as crinkling bags, hand motions, whispering, personal attention and much more. Not only do my videos help induce ASMR and provide "tingles", but they also help people who suffer with anxiety, depression, stress, insomnia, PTSD and more.

As someone who struggles with PTSD, I'm constantly having nightmares and night terrors, I've barely gotten any sleep for the past 6 months. I fell asleep listening to this video. That was the best night of sleep I've gotten in a long, long time. And for that, I sincerely thank you with every ounce of my being.

@@BubbleArcadia same. It helps my mdd gad and complex ptsd. It helps me relax and calm down. I've only recently had my memories of when I was abused as a child come back to the front of my memory. Those memories are extremely painful for me but I am getting help right now and I really hope it helps me get better. I have lived in constant fear and feeling of not being safe and welcome and loved ever since I was very young. I don't even know what it's like to be safe and welcome and feeling like i belonged somewhere and I have no clue what it's like to NOT live in fear anymore.

I'm about 5 minutes in and my heart is slowly calming down. Thank you. Your demeanor is just right: not too close and invasive, but not so distant that it feels cold. You're just calm and caring. Last night I was alone in my house and two men were trying to break in. This was my first time dealing with such a thing. I am a grown woman but I completely freaked out. Normally I try to leave these things behind me but I have a feeling this stress will stay with me for long. Those around me said some sweet words as supports but none of them really know what it felt like. And they expect me to get over this ASAP. I am not a crier but I have been crying lots. The sheer horror of realizing you re alone with these two huge guys and they are almost breaking the door. Btw I am in Europe so no gun. And I am petite so can’t exactly self defend well. I needed some comfort. Thank you for this video

I, too, suffer from PTSD. I was in an extremely abusive relationship for 4.5 years and it finally ended after he attempted to end my life. These videos are a Godsend and I love how soothing your whispering voice is. I have been watching this every morning on my way to class (and when I can't sleep) and it gets me through the day. I love your hand motions- when you put your hands up to the camera and talk soothingly. As we all know, PTSD alters our brain into a pre-verbal child, and these simple motions are just the thing my brain needs to calm itself. Sincerely, I thank you.

My psychiatrist and counselor told me you can never cure PTSD you only learn to cope with it and slowly things get easier, which makes a lot of sense. However the Healthcare system has been very apathetic towards me while I've been trying to get help for my PTSD. I've found more relief in videos like this than some of the incredibly stressful visits with my psychiatrist and counselor. Idk if I just got really unlucky with the people in charge of my care, but either way I'm glad videos like this exist to help me stop my mind from painfully ruminating even if only for a short time.

I showed this to my Father who is in the United States Special Forces and just got home from being a POW in Afghanistan for 7 months. He suffers from PTSD and Major Panic Disorder and Anxiety Disorder. I showed him this because I thought this video might help him. But right when he heard the sounds of the zipper at 1:35, he had a Panic Attack that was so severe that he was hospitalized. He later told me that it reminded him of when he was fighting the Taliban and was behind cover with assault rifles going off over his head constantly. He is okay now, I just thought I should share this.

I'm really sorry that happened to him. Headspace might be more appropriate or calm. Because ASMR is really about different noises. I think it's best asmr for PTSD would just be whispering and relaxing music or something in the background like a massage room with the message you are safe. But again I think calm and headspace are just more effective .

I suffer from severe PTSD from childhood trauma. I felt weird the first time I watched this; Ephemeral Rift usually does funny and strange types of ASMR, mixed with a bit of a dark setting for the stories, so I was a bit uneasy at first, this being so different than his usual videos. However, I kept watching through my unease and started to feel really comforted, and then really safe. Ephemeral Rift really is a protecting dad more than anything else, and I'm very happy to see videos like this where he shows that; he's a man with quite an extent of being, and I really, really appreciate his comforting side. This video really helps calm me down, up to the point where I get into a moderate-into-severe episode, and for that, I really appreciate his efforts. Thanks, Ephemeral Rift.

I'm late to this video but honestly this is the safest I've felt in a while. I have trouble sleeping with things being too quiet, the silence is just unsettling to me to the point where I won't get tired unless there is something making noise, be it rain or audio from a video. The videos I listen to are sometimes too loud though, but this was just... the perfect amount of sound that I needed. It's hard bringing this up but I've had a lot of my weaknesses exploited, and where they were exploited new weaknesses popped up. I sometimes trigger myself on accident, brushing over spots that I can't take feeling any sort of pressure in anymore. It terrifies me and sends me into a panic. But this video helped so much in so many battles against that panic. I really feel the need to thank you so.. thank you. Thank you so much.

Thought I'd just take the time to comment - this is still my favourite video you've done. The whole set up is near perfect, the lighting and set desgin, the dark background and bright lighting keep you as the focus without being too harsh. Even simple things like you choice of clothing - the white shirt gives you an aura of authority, but having the collar undone and sleeves rolled up keep you slightly casual and relatable. Most importantly your tone - you seem sincere. It's so easy for videos like this to end up sounding condesending and patronising. The sound quality also really helps here. I most enjoy the hand motions at the start - the afore mentioned lighting helps with this (the lighting and dark background makes it almost feel 3D) along with your semi-rambling talk about what you are trying to achive. The foil is also good for this, I guess i just like it when you are describing what you are doing. Not a fan of the zip. Don't have PTSD or anything, I just like to watch/listen to your videos to chill or while I'm painting. I also enjoy the ASMR lounge videos (Again the sincerty plays a part there) as well as a lot of the character videos. Good work :)

I'm really surprised by this find I never ran across it. I know this video is very old and this comment won't be read, but I still think it deserves an appreciation comment. I was recently diagnosed with PTSD. It's sadly ironic because I suffered from physicalb abuse for years, and also had an assault of the you know type. I got through those things and didn't allow myself to acknowledge It affected me. But this past year my trans child tried to commit suicide because of school. They hid it from me to spare me heartache. He did come in and tell me what he had taken in time for me to save his life. He said he couldn't stand the thought of me finding him and well essentially following him. I live for that perfect precious child. That broke me, broke so hard that the ptsd diagnosis came a few months after. Now it's like pandora's box has been opened all trauma has reopened and the nightmares never stop. I am sleeping less and less and it's majorly affecting my RA and seizures. I'm a single mom and have no one to make it safe for me. So I need ASMR to sleep at all. I guess my point in all this is It means alot to have someone dedicate a video to the topic. Ty

The world is so big. Everything gets more and more vast while everything I've ever known is more and more insignificant. I feel like the world is an ocean more than a river we're swept down, and that I'm currently drowning. I've kept myself up late, being vicious to others in the comment sections of videos, wallowing in my own fear of the world. I've felt hollow, just empty, and been physically shaking in my bed covers. Then I found this video. You saved me. Thank you so much. Thank you so so so so much!!!

i have been watching your videos for a while. i dug around to find this one again. i suffer from ptsd and sometimes my flashbacks/trauma memories are random and unpredictable. sometimes they happen when i’m in public and i feel so much guilt and shame for when they happen then, especially when i’m with others. i was out with my s.o. recently and had a really sudden and severe feeling come over me and it sent me right back to the scariest part of my past. i couldn’t even see i felt like i blacked out. i felt so ashamed and i know he felt embarrassed by my random crying. i came home and laid down to listen to this. and i am in tears, good cleansing ones. thank you for making videos like this. i appreciate them more than i can say. 💛

I suffer from PTSD, and this helped alot. I before watching ASMR would reaort to self harm, “to feel ugly”. Have nightmares that would feel so real, I would wake up, hallucinating and fall into panic attacks. Because of my problems being so severe and barely getting help, my so called friends turnes their backs on me, one of the familys that adopted me when I was younger only ised me for their....selfpleasure, and people would send me to mental health hospitals that felt like I was getting treated like less than human, just because the amount of trauma and issues I have suffered through....this has helped alot however, I sincerely thank you for this!! ❤️

PTSD is a terrible ailment to live with, no mattered what caused it. I have found, though, that AMSR does help calm me down before bed. Occasionally the soft, calm feeling will transfer over to my dreams and replace the nightmares I normally expereience every night. You are a good man E.R. I have not been diagnosed with PTSD, but i know I have had symptoms of it over the past three years since I ended a relationship where I had been abused and haven't yet been to see a psychologist. I had a trigger happen today that caused me to panic and have a paranoid mindset (I could swear there were people in my house trying to abduct me. I know it is all in my head, as I have triple checked everything, locked up nice and safe). Within a couple of minutes of your video, I relaxed. The paranoia slipped away, and I realized that the noises are not from within my apartment, but the people living above me. Because of your video, I will be able to sleep tonight. Your video feels like a big hug right when I need it most. I cannot say it enough, thank you.

I suffer from mild PTSD. Usually while having an attack my (what ever adult I am with that knows I have PTSD (ex:teacher)) will put music on and put the headphones on hoping it drowns out what is happening in my attack.(It does not work for me but I know it helps them to think they are helping me because they really cant do much.) Now nearing the "end" of my attack we play this, it seems to help calm me down and get me back into reality faster. So thank you! I hope you know/understand how much you have helped people with this video! Edit: Blocks are the best!!

Not just because of the sounds content which I love (the bubble-wrap water bottle was genius!), but because it is very apparent the amount of genuine love, compassion, empathy and the desire to help someone that comes through loud & clear.
