For those who don't know, the "I Line" runs between Cleveland, TN and Cohutta, GA, about 14 miles. It sees between 3 and 8 trains annually. Sometimes, it will be 3 to 4 months in between trains and they typically go through at 0 Dark 30. Until 2016-ish, the I Line saw between 5 and 10 daily trains when all those GA Power plants still burned coal - but now it is utilized for MOW moves between Knoxville and Atlanta.
On July 14, 2024, we were informed that a 95z was going to pass by Ed Painter's house in perfect light. We rushed there as quickly as we could and set up for the southbound ballast train... But had no idea 18E, a northbound, was going to meet it on the other side of Ed's property on the H Line (Chattanooga to Atlanta mainline, 25-ish per day).
