Epic Battle Of River Trebia Total War Recreation
In late summer 490BC the citizens of Athens faced off against the superpower of the ancient world, the Persian Empire of Darius I. The fate of western democracy and civilisation was balanced on a knife edge as the two foes clashed at the Battle of Marathon.
We've recreated the battle using the Radious mod for the brilliant video game Rome II - Total War.
History Hit presenters Louee Dessent and Luke Tomes take you through the strategy and tactics of the two generals on the day, the Athenian strategos Miltiades and the Persian commanders, Datis and Artaphernes. They’ll take you through the background to the battle, the composition of the armies and the key moments that decided the day.
The Battle of Marathon has gained legendary status and was certainly a decisive clash of the Greco-Persian Wars, but is it possible to separate history from myth? We examine the key literary source Herodotus and try to give you a balanced view of how this battle played out.

You guys should use some mods like divide et impera. The units look a lot cooler(and historical) than these base game ones. Something that you guys should also do that apparently isnt being done in the recordings of unit movement is to synchronize large clashes. I keep seeing one unit at a time charging. It looks cooler to pause the game and synchronize a mass coordinated order and then unpause the game so all orders happen at the same time(I am sure that pause can be edited out) instead of units arriving one at a time.

Would love to see a battle from the Sengoku Jidai. Nagashino, Anegawa or Sekigahara are all great candidates.

Really enjoyed this Louee and Luke, might be worth a minute or two to describe the contingents iand equipmenty they used before the battle begins. Like the Time Commanders vibe. Would like the Battle of Asculum next up in Ancient theatre, or Isandlwana in 19th century if possible.

I’ve always hated that quote about Hannibal not knowing how to use a victory, like he was supposed to siege Rome with a battered force, no siege weapons, no support, and no ability to hold it if he even was able to take it. An attempted siege of Rome would’ve left all of Hannibal’s army in a mass grave outside the city.

Really really good fun to watch. Just like many other videos out there, try and keep the music as low as possible. Good rule what ever you think sounds good drop it again further.

Great video, love the series. I'd like to see you tackle the Battle of Cunaxa (401 BC) which was fought between two Persian brothers, Cyrus the Younger and Artaxerxes II. In Cyrus' army were a force of 10,000 mercenary Greek hoplites, and their exploits and adventures getting back home after the battle were recorded by Xenophon.

More than likely a child sacrifice was involved in Hannibal’s oath to always be Rome’s enemy. Carthaginians loved their child sacrifices. So much so that when the Romans sacked Carthage they were appalled at what they saw.

It's true, the Carthaginians migrated to north Africa from modern day Israel. They were the biblical Canaanites. En child sacrifices wre part of their _religion_ the bible mentions it

Which Rome 2 battle map did you use? It looks like a fun river crossing to play!

For anyone who is interested, I believe the map used was the Akink river crossing in the Season Winter, on a dry day, where the Romans are the attackers and the Carthaginians are the defenders.

This is my best guess (you can look for it on the danube river in the grand campaign river crossing presets).

I believe the confusion comes from the fact that only one Asian elephant (Surus) survived the campaign in Italy, but most (23 of 37) appear to have crossed the mountains.
