This argument never really made much sense. DOW was always cartoony. Maybe they didn't add enough lines or the bloom was too high but it was never going to look as good as DOW 2 because of optimization. The game is not trash. It's just okay and really needed better modding tools

@@kingra2650 You must have a beast of a phone because no mobile game looks this decent. Unless you're talking about Honkai Impact decent then yeah this is meh at best. Bonus points for this being mouse and keyboard controlled which makes it bearable compared to most mobile games? Though what is it really for you that makes you say that? The bloom? the textures? Oh I get it it must be the untextured ground which... okay I'll have to kinda agree though to be fair DOW 2 had the best graphics but was not an RTS so it doesn't count.

@@alexanerose4820 yeah the terrain is bland, the units too, the gameplay is too quick too in the way it looks unrealistic. When I played it I did kinda enjoy it at first but got bored of it super fast. We all have different tastes I guess, sadly this game isn't to mine.

Yeah, I hear you. Especially when they removed the morale bar and sync kills. That's what sold the original DOW 1 to me, especially breaking the ranks of IG and watching them flee into their own guns XD

Just finished an Eldar campaign on soulstorm today ! I wish they made a similar game with new races !!

Dawn of War 2 wasn't bad, denying it exists proves you are still a child. Dawn of War 3 was just awful.

You've probably played it, but just in case, Dawn Of War: Soulstorm Ultimate Apocalypse mod. But if you haven't, boy are you in for one hell of a ride.

@@DwarfyDoodad It wasn't bad, but I'd argue that it's below DOW 2 because in it's core it isn't an RTS. It's closer to the first one then DOW 2 ever will be. Heck DOW 2 only got really good after Retribution came out so the comparison to a game who didn't get any expansions isn't a fair point. Heck many people complained the same things when base DOW 2 first came out because of the precedence Dark Crusade set yet It still has fanbase, just like DOW 3 does.

Umm...buddy, a MOBA doesn't allow you to build bases, armies, and collect resources. This is objectively an RTS. Not as good as Dark Crusade but definitely better then DOW 2. Heck it just really needs a few tweaks and a few more races and it would do well. Though I wouldn't call it "dead" since we have a player base that shares an average with the reso of the DOW titles (even the renowned Dark Crusade) with Soulstorm being the exception due to the UA mod.

@@gardevoir7137 Nah they are but saying this is a MOBA when we have two clear examples of what a MOBA is that is both world wide famous and still played to this day is just.... incorrect on a functional and gameplay level. If you said it looked bad then yeah you'll have a clear opinion there. I mean have you seen the ground on this? Even I can't justify that!

DOW 1 with mods and especially with UA mod works very slow, that is why I don't play it anymore.

@@Space-Battles-2020 thats why I play Total War Warhammer 2. In the grim darkness of the 21st century, there are only quality Fantasy games and trash 40k games which are somehow worse with each installment other than graphics.

Any actual specifics on why other than looks? 'Cuz while there are a few things missing (morale and sync kills) most "criticisms" are either petty or badnwagoning

@@Johnwang1191 Fair enough though I think your comparison is wrong in that at least one of them is a car. DOW 2 is an entirely different thing so it would be more accurate to judge it to DOW 1 since they are both RTS and on that front there are improvements (overall design and heroes feeling great for example) and flaws (removing the morale meter and no sync kills for example). Although some arguments were definitely bandwagoning like saying it's a MOBA which is just untrue on a functional and gameplay level when you see DOTA and LOL, emphasizing how Gabriel "jumps" with the Daemonhammer which eeehhhh are you really pointing that out in this universe, and calling it an SC2 clone which every RTS with three different factions has been called to (I don't remember any race in DOW 2 being as fun as the Orks with their scrap), and etc which were repeated ad nauseum and were the loudest. TL;DR If we really wanted it to succeed, we should've toned it down a bunch until after we got the rest of the races. Most didn't and now here we are.

I wish they put back the morale system and at least a few sync kills. That was DOW's identity dammit! Though you gotta admit they got a few things right, especially the Orks and that's comming from an Eldar player. But are the heroes really op? I argue that the bosses/heroes from DOW were more ridiculously op and the closest thing to a Titan in that game were the Wraithlord bosses and Ulkair. Maybe the occasions Hive Tyrant but they get easy after you get the rockets

Marines were not a defensive faction. Game-long drop pod deployments, banner, Tac flamer, ASM, Deathwatch Vortex grenades, all their tanky melee heroes, and so on really rewarded getting into the enemy's face and throwing them around. They *were* like shock troops

@@jarlath9414 i really saw them as the more defensive faction of the 3... mainly due to the standart encouraging you to really stick to it like glue (unlike Orks, that can move away from the source of the buff) and the orbital strike also placing a beacon you need to defend. All 3 factions have OP melee heroes really, so I wouldnt really consider that a factor for the gameplay of a faction... but overall, the marine playstyles looked a lot to me like you were just designating an area of the map to be YOUR turf and encouraging you to defend said spot for as long as you can, unlike the other factions dont have to stick to their buff sources... made me feel it was more how the imperial guard would play at times, with a rather slow but hard to stop steamroll

@@thorveim1174 Standard could be placed anywhere; it was perfectly viable for offense. SM had 2 fairly cheap tanky heroes that were good linebreakers for the rest of the force. (Chaplain, Gabriel). I'm sure SM could be made to work in a defensive playstyle as well, but they were not shoehorned into it, mechanically speaking.

I prefer with DOW 2 for Graphic, and for doing some crazy stuff with classic RTS i like to play DOW 1 AU Mod or unification Race addon

Starcraft is based off of warhammer 40k. If you’ve ever wondered why the creators of 40k are so guarded of their ip, its because they originally hired blizzard to make a 40k game using space marines, elder, and tyranids. Blizzard backed out of it or some such happened , and then Starcraft happened. If I am remembering the story correctly.

Warcraft 1 was originally supposed to be a Warhammer fantasy game. But that deal fell through. Starcraft 1 was never supposed to be a 40k game though. But it's obvious that they took a lot of inspiration from 40k. I guess you can think of DoW3 as a look into an alternate timeline where Blizzard was firmly tied to Games Workshop IPs and World of Warhammer was the breakaway MMO hit.

Nah SC2 isn't this fun, especially with the hero units. Why do people keep comparing it to that APM hand killer?
