Because in his overview it said leftovers, but with trick he switched the ring target onto ghost pokemon, so he can actually hit them with explosion.

I expected you to have something with Soak or Magic Powder to make ghosts vulnerable, but I guess Trick + Ring Target is the better option, since it saves team space and can't be cancelled by switching out.
