I loved the honesty of your mint making. Brought a wonderful memory of me and my sisters recalling our childhood and now in our seventies trying to make Mama’s popcorn balls. We had loads of laughs trying to decide how she did it and whether they tasted like we remembered. You didn’t fail. You relived wonderful memories with your Mom!💖

My best friend owns a chocolate shop and I just called her.She said your clear molds are for chocolate, and the white molds are for candy. They are made with diff plastic ingredients as one requires more slip than the other . But not a fail! If they are edible it’s good. You’ve inspired me though to make these as they remind me almost of a chewy mint taffy ❤❤

Oh, Tipper, I'm so glad you did this video. So many youtubers wouldn't show something they thought failed, but you are so real and true to who you are. I don't think it was a fail as long as you can still eat them. I was hoping to see Matt try one. You can always tell what a person thinks when they bite into something new. It was so good to hear Granny's voice. I woke up praying for many people and she was at the top of the list. God bless!

The recipe my Mama used was called “Butter mints.” You don’t melt the butter. It needs to be softened at room temp. Then the dough forms nicely. Did not use molds. You take a little bit of dough and roll it out into a snake like line and cut them into individual mints. 😊

I used to work with an older lady who had never married and still lived in her childhood home, to hear her tell it she had not had a decent bite to eat since her mother passed, which was 25 or 30 years prior, nothing was ever as good as what her momma had made, as a momma myself I know what high praise that is and how much joy that comes from feeding my family, I don’t know if she ever told her momma when she was living how good she thought her cooking was, but she sure missed it when she was gone.

Oh my goodness. I remember these. It was so good to hear granny on the phone! My grandma died this spring and it reminded me of talking to her about cooking old family recipes. The mint molds we had were made of a soft gray rubber and you could pop them out. For some reason, I think of them as a spring-time treat. We made a few kinds for family weddings.

You might be older but your excitement is like a child enjoying yourself as you try to replacate Granny's recipe from your childhood days.I couldn't help but smile as you went back and forth questioning yourself about what might be the problem. Granny's just a phone call away 🤗 I still have a landline and a cell phone. I'm old school in more ways than one. I had the same problem years ago like Granny has when it rained. I was so thankful the technician was able to fix it. He said it was a break in the line and water was getting into it. Praying Granny has remarkable results from her treatments and gets her strength back soon. Blessed! 🤗🙏💕

Tipper, one time when I came home after being gone for a few years my mom asked what would I like to have. I answered hot oatmeal. I remember Mom making divinity candy. If it was humid they didn't turn out and she would call it Sea Foam Candy. she never gave up though and finally stumbled on a fail proof recipe and after all those years of trying she made the best divinity I ever ate. From then on she was the go to if anyone was going to make divinity and needed help. Well I wouldn't say it was an epic fail. I bet they taste great! Peppermint is good for stomach and indigestion upsets. Well the cool part is the molds held up and I believe you made Sea foam Candy!! hahaha Praying for Granny always!!

I've been cooking since I was a child. I'm a pretty good home cook. But there are a few things I've always struggled with. Fried chicken, I'm ashamed to say. My mom and her mom made great fried chicken but it intimidates me. And my mom's dressing at Thanksgiving was so good. My sister can make it but mine never turns out as good. But I make great pies, I make good gravy and I know people who struggle with that, and my spaghetti and meatballs is well known amongst my friends and family. Thank you for sharing your peppermint journey! ❤

Tipper, I just made a recipe similar to yours. I think where you went wrong, was, to add your butter, syrup, and half your powdered sugar, and bring that to a rolling boil. Boil for about 5 minutes, then remove from the heat and add the other half of your sugar, vanilla and peppermint flavoring. Then wait until you can knead it, separate your dough and add whatever color you’re using. Don’t give up, you’ll get it! ❤

Tipper , I catered for many years and I made mints. The most requested mints were cream cheese mints . you could make a small batch to try them by using a half block of cream cheese and add 1 and 1/4 cup of powdered sugar . You can mix these 2 items with a wooden spoon and you will come up with a workable paste . You can add a little more sugar if they are not a moldable past . Add food coloring and mint flavoring to taste. Dust your molds with powdered sugar and mold . Turn them out on parchment and let dry for 24 hours on your counter . Silicone molds work great. Loved Your Video.

Yes ma’am. I’m 61 years old but I remember our old address. It was Route 1, box 10, Folsom, Louisiana. Now we have the 5 digit number for 911 uses!

I’ve had my share of cooking failures. When I was a teen and baking, my younger siblings loved my failures cause they got to eat them right away. Try, try again. You’ll still be able to eat and enjoy them. I love your apron, it’s beautiful.

I use to make peppermint candy that I put in leaf or rosette molds. My mom, sisters and I hand made 10 dozen of them for my wedding reception. Mom had put out a tray of the mints on the table, but with all the reception excitement no body refilled the tray with mints. We had 8 dozen mints left in mom’s freezer. We divided them up and I don’t think I’ve made them since then. I have the recipe somewhere in my recipe files, but I think it was a lot like yours. If I find it, I’ll email it to you. It was good hearing Granny in good spirits. Prayers continue for her.

Tipper it's your molds. I managed a Cake and Candy store for 15 years. Clear molds are chocolate and ice molds. White molds are for hard candy or any candy that has to cook and gets really hot. Pinch off a piece of candy. Roll in in powdered sugar then press it into the white molds. The will be very sharp and detailed. The peppermint oil is not the problem. Oil is actually better for candies than extracts. To find alot of mold choices look up Country Kitchen, Ft Wayne Indiana. They carry over 1000 molds easily. Enjoy

The problem of it thinking out is caused by the powdered sugar. Recipe is suppose to be granulated sugar. Then just roll ball in ps and push into the mold

There has never been a cook who hasn't messed up a recipe from time to time. I have never been much of a fan of peppermint, though I do like spearmint and wintergreen treats. I have made old-fahioned peanut brittle from my bosses' wife's recipe for at least twenty years to give as Christmaas gifts to family and friends. It's the kind where you boil sugar and corn syrup to a temperature, add the peanuts, boil to a higher temperature before adding butter, vanilla extracet and baking soda. The soda causes the candy to foam, like honeycomb candy, so it's easier to chew and doesn't stick to one's teeth. Every year several people ask, as the holidays draw nearer, if I plan to make my brittle again. My answer is "As long as I can stand on my feet, there will be peanut brittle for Christmas.
