The Brécourt Manor Assault (6 June 1944) during the U.S. parachute assault of the Normandy Invasion of World War II is often cited as a classic example of small-unit tactics and leadership in overcoming a larger enemy force.

Little known fact: during the battle of Normandy Americans would use the code flash, thunder to tell if the noises they heard were Americans so if they said flash and then heard the reply “thunder” then they would know if it was an American or a German. The reason they used these words was because there were no German words that sound anything like flash or thunder so it would be a good secret code that even German foreign aids couldn’t figure out.
