Messi surpassed Maradona in every single aspect, both in and outside the football court. And as an Argentinian I can tell you that the only ones that still defend Maradona are old dinosaurs that are unable to move on and accept the fact that Lionel Messi is, objectively speaking, the undisputed GOAT.

We grew up watching Maradona winning the World Cup and as adults we admire Messi for his undisputed quality and achievements. Argentines are so fortunate to have such greats as their football legends.

But Maradona was not "Messi's greatest fan" he was a petty and insecure little man who instead of defending Messi when the Argentinian media was criticizing him, he joined them and bashed him as well. He kicked Messi when he was down and played a major role in the psychological warfare against him, he was part of the reason Messi suffered so much when playing for Argentina.
