The sand used in this pond has no silica dust so it stays in place even with kids playing in it. This video shows the sand after almost a year, and it’s been used by the family 300 days so far. So it’s a soft sand but still won’t get kicked up and clog the filtration.

Not sure if I'm inspired or depressed. Beautiful work. I bought a place in Tennessee, wanted to put in a pond, local geologist told me that because of the poor bedrock around here, a pond is hit or miss- lots of them fail. So I'm looking for other options for a "pond" of some type.

So beautiful. I wonder what the maintenance is compared to a traditional I ground pool
@markthepondguy
@markthepondguy Жыл бұрын
We aren’t pool experts so we can’t necessarily speak to anything pool related, but the maintenance for a well designed Rec pond is surprisingly minimal. If running natural, the wetland plants/bog filter act as a natural filter, and mechanical filtration in the form of a skimmer or intake bay skims the surface of the pond to keep any debris from falling. The jet systems also help keep the pond floor free of debris. In addition to those installed features, a Rec pond owner should add weekly bacteria treatments and other natural water treatments as needed, this takes about 15-20 minutes weekly. This pond is chlorinated however (with the option to run it natural), and is maintained by the homeowner. From what we have learned from him the process of maintenance on a chlorinated Rec pond is similar to a pool. I hope this reply helps!

Man what do you do when the liner fails??!?
@markthepondguy
@markthepondguy Жыл бұрын
We have been building ponds since 1997 and none have failed due to defect. 45ml EPDM rubber liner has a 20 year warranty when exposed to UV and our liners are covered by rock/gravel so the life expectancy is at least a couple decades! With proper installation and protection you can expect a pond liner to last for a long time.

I still don’t get how the pool is actually cleaned I can’t imagine that the skimmer alone will do the job, are there some sort of pipes underneath the gravel in the water to pull in water?
@markthepondguy
@markthepondguy Жыл бұрын
This feature is designed with a 3 stage filtration process before anything gets to the main filter. That along with the sand used having 0% silica dust, and using fine mulch that doesn't move, not much debris gets into the water. But, anything that does get into the water is met by a dual skim process which keeps any floating debris from sinking. Also has the option for chlorinated or natural, the customer chooses to chlorinate this feature.

The only shame here is that you used some amazing boulders for the frame of the waterfalls but the waterfalls are far short of what they could have been regarding your LPH and impact with the swim pond being so amazing. I really mean this is the most constructive way, the whole thing looks amazing. Just the volume of water would have been the icing on the cake. 😂

@@markthepondguy I mean actually swim, not immerse oneself in water and take 4 strokes one way.I see it very often with large areas and big budgets."Swimming" pools that are too short to swim in. With their space n budget they could have had a very long rockscape swimming pool. I appreciate the benefits and pleasure of actually swimming too much to settle for less. That is why I have a 70ft long pool. Theirs is very beautiful and is reminiscent of a mountain pool and when the rest of the landscaping n greenery is done it will be even more spectacular.👍👍

@@johnmichaelkarma each customer has different priorities and this pond was built alongside the customer to deliver exactly what they wanted. It’s a 28’x35’ so while not as large as a traditional pool, it was important for them to have something both functional and aesthetic.
@johnmichaelkarma

@@markthepondguy I understand it comes down to the customers wants. I just have a difficult time understanding a customer getting less real swimming area for the same money. But perhaps they did get more rocks. Some people like rocks,lots of rocks.😄
@markthepondguy
@markthepondguy Жыл бұрын
@@johnmichaelkarma can totally understand your viewpoint! Different “strokes” for different folks applies here haha. They’d owned several pools prior to having this Recreation Pond installed, and the primary purpose was for their children to play in the white sand beaches and shallow splash areas. So, more interactive than a traditional pool while still having a lot of visual interest when not being used recreationally.
