We had the privilege of meeting up with Prodigal Overland for an epic day off roading in the snow in the Ouachita National Forest. It was great meeting him and his family! I took my JKU Rubicon and my wife took her new Grand Cherokee Trailhawk along with Prodigal Overland's fully built Grand Cherokee Trailhawk.

@11:39 I remember someone saying that "All Wheel Drive" will do better to keep from sliding into a ditch. God I miss the snow already. Temps are up 60's and 70's with high humidity here in Louisiana. Just a week ago it was down to 14 degrees.

Within reason. I live in NE Washington and a Subaru gets around well until it gets high centered. That rubicon is the most trail capable rig they have. But lockers are tricky. Loggers run lockers in their trucks and forgot to pop em out and try to turn a corner and roll the log truck. Cuz the lockers push em right through the corner. And no power to the steer axle. So you have to be careful. Nice video!

Great video and choreography once again. This one’s closer to home for us as we are in Oklahoma City. I think this video has pretty much confirmed for my wife and I that it will be either a wrangler or gladiator purchase instead of a grand Cherokee trail hawk. We just want to be able to go Anywhere without a doubt and that giant mud hole, that you drove through without any real effort, showed us how capable that model of jeep is compared to the others. Our only concern is reliability issues and can you tell us what your experience has been within the jeep community in that regard? Subscribed
@OzarkOverlandAdventures
@OzarkOverlandAdventures 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks!! In my latest Real World Overlander video I discuss my thoughts on reliability. Maintenance is key. I've only had one non-maintenance issue on my 2012 JKU Rubicon and it was a bad gasket around the oil filter housing. I could have fixed that myself but I couldn't find the leak. My theory is the more electronics something has the more likely things are to fail that you can't fix. This is why my next Jeep will be another JK - just a later model. I've got 125k miles on mine and it's still doing great. I expect it to last me many more years and I'll just keep repairing the parts that wear out because I wheel the crap out of it. lol.

Holy crap that's some pretty scary stuff to me when she about slides into the mud pit. I would turned my butt around and went back home...wow. You guys ended up doing a good job on the recovery but super sketch to me. Also cool to see you get to the virgin snow part in the trail with the wheel shot. Which engine does your wife's Jeep have and did you have to do anything to get those tires to fit?
@OzarkOverlandAdventures
@OzarkOverlandAdventures 3 жыл бұрын
thanks! My wife is pretty awesome!! She did much sketchier stuff than that when she had her JKU. Check out the Moab videos to see her in action. She has the 3.6L. We added wheel spacers so the tires wouldn't rub. That's it.

What is the general rule of thumb for how far to go around an optical? I had in instance this week with a tree that had fallen in the trail and no chainsaw. I turned around around because I didn’t want to start blazing a new trail through the forest.
@OzarkOverlandAdventures
@OzarkOverlandAdventures 3 жыл бұрын
You did well. For me it depends on the terrain and how tight the trail is. In the case of this mud hole, the trail was obviously wide but with the snow we couldn't tell much. But there wasn't any trees or plants growing in that area so I figured we were safe.
@FreysOnTheSide

Question about Cara's tires Matt. How are those Wildpeak AT3Ws doing in the mud and are they load range E? Looking to replace the factory Goodyear Wrangler Adventure on my Tacoma. Can't decide between wildpeak AT3W and Toyo ATIII and between SL and E Range? Any feedback is appreciated......I will note that today's getting stuck wasn't typical.
@OzarkOverlandAdventures
@OzarkOverlandAdventures 3 жыл бұрын
We haven't used them a lot in mud because Cara doesn't want to get her TrailHawk dirty. 😂 But so far we really like them. I had Toyo AT2s on my JKU many years ago and they performed well. Looks like they are load range SL for this size (265/65 R18). Betweek the 2 tires, I would go with the ones I can get the best deal on.

@@OzarkOverlandAdventures Thanks Matt. Always like to ask the local guys. I am looking at the Toyo AT3's as well in the SL.
@OzarkOverlandAdventures
@OzarkOverlandAdventures 3 жыл бұрын
@@leighgibson3623 If you are really concerned about mud performance then you need to just get a mud tire. MTs have come a long way and aren't as loud and don't wear as fast as they used to be. I will only run MTs on my Jeep. ATs just don't do well in Ozark mud.
