Epica is the most complete band, in my opinion. They are heavy af but the symphonic elements takes them to the next level. I recommend their new song called Omega (their new album is titled the same).

Yeah, Simone Simons is out of this world. One of the greatest vocalists out there. This Retrospect show lasted for about three hours, she kept those high soaring vocals up the whole show through. The band incorporates orchestra and choir in every song. Epica, well those guys and lady are a league on their own. Don't worry by pausing, you're not the only one who thought the song was over after that section! 😉😅

Hey Mat and Chels - you don't have to choose between NW and Epica - both bands and front women are fantastic. Just enjoy! The retrospect show is over 3 hours long and Simone was 3 months pregnant at the time - and everybody, special kudos to Simone, still succeeded pulling it out and have lots of fun at the same time

Since you loved Simone's vocals, I suggest you listen to one of the songs from Epica's new album called "Rivers" is a beautiful ballad that showcases Simone's voice amazingly. Another thing to note is that their music is very poetic and heavy in lyrics. One of my favorite lyrics in Design your Universe is "So many people are full of hate , While love and light are in their reach, So many people will harm themselves, But life can be so beautiful" which was hidden behind Mark's growling. Yay! What an amazing 3 hour show. Sh'moon was a little short of breath from being a few months pregnant, with her first child, but that just makes me respect her performance even more. That big bass drum, though... 😯

If I could only listen to one band for the rest of my life, it would definitely be Epica. Simone's voice is so heavenly and Mark Jansen's vocals contrast so richly with hers. It was also nice to know that I'm not the only one having eargasms while listening to this band. All the "Mmm's", chills and expressions were entertaining to see. :D

Yeah Simone is one of the best vocalists out there...but people tend to forget that she also is one of the best lyric writers in genre in general (in my opinion) praising only on Mark. There is a channel where guy put lyrics on Epica songs and in the end of the video he signs the authors of the song. It's always very curious to see what Simone wrote and what Mark wrote. As a result, you will always recognize their authoring style later.

This is a great performance with the pause they created by the end. I like its lush and vibrant sound with the orchestra. I have to admit that I probably sort of prefer it over the studio version. It is from an album of the same name, which was Epica´s fourth. It was the first one with Isaac as the lead guitarist and because of that there were made some adjustments to songs to take full advantage of his skills. He was in the same band as Arien, the drummer, which was much heavier than Epica in its early years. I always forget its name, but there was something Dethroned, I believe. This album ended the "first age" of Epica for me. After recording of this album there was a longer gap than between previous ones as they searched for some inspiration and where to move on from there. Outcomes of this gap were two: recording of the fifth album Requiem for the Indifferent and founding of MaYaN as a project, which they could use as an outlet to put ideas that were too far from Epica´s general sound. And there are some rather lovely ballads that should not remain forgotten.

No - she was a better vocalist with 21 than 95% of the rest 😂. Also check out Within Temptation, the 3rd fantastic Symphonic Metal Band with a female vocalist. My favorite is "Mother Earth". What a great reaction and I think you are both right. Floor and Simone make you not only feel the music but also feel yourself. And, no suprise, there are more great female sympho rock singers in the Netherlands. Anneke Giersbergen and Sharon van Andelst for instance. Just try and enjoy.

Floor coached Simone at some point, they even shared a room at some point. It kinda shows, or rather Sounds :-))) And this was a 3.5 hour concert, while she was pregnant and the stress of live recording etc. So this is crazy good, by everyone.

No offense, but there are other metal queens. Floor and Simone are fantastic but you need check other ones. But still these two are powerhousees... - Liv Kristine (Theatre of Tregedy, Leaves` Eyes) - my first metal queen... - Vibeke Stene (Tristania) - wonderful unique sound of Tristania - gothic metal gods - Dianne van Giersbergen - fantastic job with two Xandria albums (one of the best SM bands to me) - Sharon den Adel - haunting voice of Within Temptation (Enter album is their best to me but SM ones also fantastic) And Tarja of course - I think that she is better in old NW songs. Such a Slaying the Dreamer is much more better with Tarja than Floor. Tarja gave such a power to that song... Some awsome not sopranos (I think so...) - Aleah Stanbridge - doom and hounting sound of Trees of Eternity - Anita Augland - mesmerizing voice of Th Sins of Thy Beloved - of of my beloved gothic metal bands - Heike Langhans - another haunting voice of Draconian - my fav gothic/doom band - Anna Murphy - super expressional voice of Eluveitie and Cellar Darling - Amy Lee - yes, she...
