I just love that song........ Floor and Simone Simons(Epica singer) are good friends and they both come from the Netherlands. Mark Jansen(no relation) started Epica after he left the band that he was in with Floor called After Forever. Floor also was in the band ReVamp. She left that band after Nightwish called her mid tour to cover Anette who got sick, and then asked her to be a permanent member of the band. Thanks for all you do. I appreciate it........... :-)

Simone Simons and Floor Jansen -- what a combination! Epica is more metal than some of the other symphonic metal bands. Lots of guitars and double bass drums.

Floor Jansen singing alongside Simone is amazing Floor is the lead singer of Nightwish. I believe Sancta Terra means Holy Ground.

Its a show that is on par with the live Nightwish songs that you have already done but with a lot more metal. Thanks

I have watched this so many times and one think that strikes me, is how hard it must be to sing that way (not only the operatic) but after moving on stage, headbanging and then right into singing and hitting those notes, the duets etc. (just as when the guitar player is headbaning while playing).

ahhh, but truly. How can you go wrong with Xena and Gabrielle on stage :) Honestly, I really enjoy Epica. Though, they are not my favorite. Unless Floor joins in. She just makes things better.

I had thought she was only about two months along but you could be right. She really was taking it easy up there with only a little bit of headbanging for a short amount of time, and look at what she was wearing! :)

Ha! Fun. From that same 'Retrospect' show is 'Design Your Universe'. A Must See, but the whole show was awesome. Also, with a similar positive message (and with a 53 piece orchestra and 30 piece choir), Dimmu Borgir, Gateways, from Forces of The Northern Night. Trust me. You won't regret either one. Also suggesting you make the video bigger, as the visuals are a big part of these performances, and many people have never seen them. Carry on!

Well this is a song that just presses tears of joy from this Classical / Metal nerd's eyes... :) Just how much awesomeness can you get packed into 4 minutes?? This is honestly the best weaving of 2 classical voices since the "Flower Duet" by Delibes (put to thundering METAL that is!). I have to run before the more nerdy among Classical nerds will point out all the flawless opera duos that have taken place over the last 400 years... But I never return to any of them as often as this one. Maybe cause these are 2 beauties / idols of MY time right there, and not another coupling of amazing (and visually imposing) primadonnas...

Classical fan too, eh? Give Havergal Brian's Gothic symphony a listen. Greatest concern of my life (2011 Proms; recording). The quadruple timpani duet in the last movement is as metal as anything you'll ever hear.

In the Netherlands, for quite some time in the naughties, this music and bans like this (After Forever, Epica, Within Temptation, Delain, etc) were considered quite common "pop music". If you like a treat to watch and listen together I suggest "Black Symphony" by Within Temptation

Now that you’ve dipped your toe into the world of Epica I thought I’d share some fun facts. Band formed in 2002 by guitarist Mark Jansen who had been with the group After Forever until it disbanded. Their lead singer was Floor Jansen (no relation). Epica needed a singer and Mark ask his girlfriend Simone Simons. She had never sang on stage and was terrified so she declined. The group hired another singer who didn’t work out and again Mark ask Simone even though now they were no longer a couple. She finally agreed to be the lead singer and the rest is history. Others may add tidbits but that gives you a background of the group and their relationship to Floor.

WOW, you upload videos so fast, can't keep up with them all. I hope that you don't mind if I just the one's that I know I'll like. Try to see then all eventually. This was enjoyable as always and as already been said one cannot go wrong with two of the most talented & beautiful female vocalists in metal. It would be really great in Simone Simons of Epica, Floor Jansen of Nightwish, Sharon den Adel from Within Temptation & Annette van Giersbergen from The Gathering & Wuur would get together like those female metal vocalists in Exit Eden and just do covers of great songs. I think it would be epic.

For a dark, powerful vocal request I would suggest "Crimson Deep" by Tarja off her Act 1 Live DVD. Oh and this DVD, Retrospect, is worth every penny. 3 hours of Epica with an orchestra and choir
