No joke. When Jacque twisted that red cabbage I wasn't quite prepared for the violence involved. I almost choked as I sipped my cocktail. I coughed for a good minute with tears rolling down my cheeks. You guys are awesome!!

Celery is used to cure ham and bacon instead of traditional nitrites and salt. The celery cured products are marked Uncured on the packages...celery seed and celery extracts is what you need to look for on the ingredients list. Celery needs a lot of water, it will make it milder and crunchier, but also blanching stalks by shading the stalks (I use milk cartons) to shade the stalks only while they're growing.

@@JennTN411 Not sure if sodium is actually reduced, but when the stalks are hydrated really well, they don't taste as salty. Plus the water will make the stalks grow larger, so they won't be as fibrous and stringy.

I think I need to prioritize celery this year. I have a chronic illness where it's recommended I take 8-10g of salt daily, so any healthy source is very welcome

Kevin, your reaction when Jacques talks to and harvests the cabbage, it had me in stitches. I skipped back to it like 5 times 😂 Ahhhhh thanks for making my late breakfast so enjoyable. Summer is ending here in Australia, and after seeing this I’m super keen to get my cold veggies on!

When the spikey dragonfruits are really fully ripe, you should be able to simply brush the spikes off of them. That's one more way to tell if they're fully ripe.

I saw somebody just use basically a paint brush and brush all the spikes off. It was pretty amazing.

I've got my first cabbage heads this year: little Tiara green cabbages the size of a baseball. Great for a smaller garden! But they aren't as pretty as yours. That is a stunning cabbage.

You guys make me want to grow and eat things that I haven’t liked before. Specifically kale and cabbage and beets. I’d love to see what you do with kale soup! I’ve never seen it.

I find most beets taste like dirt, but I do eat them fried like French fries. Kale is great in a lot of things, soup, stir fry, salad, meatloaf, I’ve even powdered it and baked it in muffins. I hope you have fun on your growing adventure!

Love you guys! That was one beautiful cabbage. Juicing is a great way to get those healthy greens into your diet. Carrot and beet juice with a twist of lime, yumm. Use tongs to harvest dragon fruit.

My goal is to grow pink celery. I love the leaves in soups and dishes. Only us gardeners get excited to see a cilantro blooming. I am the same way.

A tip for the dragon fruits… just use a little broom around the fruit before you cut it off. The spikes comes right off and if it doesn’t, it means that’s not ripe yet.

My favorite trick to prevent lettuce bolting is Bamboo leafs as mulch. Part of the reason is that I get to harvest them for free from a bamboo patch on my property but the main reason is that the leaves are so small but slow to break down that they are perfect to carefully place between lettuce heads, their not prone to matting if let whole so it's less work not having to shred them and still get nice airflow.

I noticed that when I mulched my cabbages, worms were plentiful. So much so that they ended all up in the heads of the cabbages. The ones I didn’t mulch were amazing and clean. Also, not sure about the spines on the paloras but I grow alot of colombiana and when the fruit is getting ripe, the spines come off easily so I use an old bottle brush and brush them off prior to harvesting. Works great. No pricked fingers 👍🏼🙏🏼🤙🏼 That purple cabbage was absolutely amazingly beautiful by the way.👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Guys you can use a brush to get the spikes off dragon fruit before you harvest it, if it's ripe they fall out easily! You're welcome! 👍

If you cut across the main stem of a cabbage, brocollli, cauli and kale you can cut a cross ➕ or star into it with your knife and it comes sprouting back

I started some red acre cabbage a few weeks ago, and it's so cool seeing the final product for them when my seedlings are so small! I don't think I'll quite decapitate it like Jacques did though 🤣

I like to dehydrate celery leaves to use for seasoning. It is salty but great for flavoring chicken and soup 🌱💚

Don't forget to eat the GREENS on those beets! SO GOOD! Chop up, lightly sautee, they're already salty flavored. I like to use them like spinach and fold them into an egg omelet as one idea. - Ooops! In my enthusiasm about beet greens, I paused the video to comment before you finished talking about them. Ha! ;)

for the yellow dragon fruit, my dad uses a wide paint brush to just brush the thorns away, they should fall off on their own when they are ripe, so don't force anything

hey there we grow Harrier beets, harvest the big ones. Then the littles get big. Also when they get big they look like wooden pool balls but still tender. Thieves took others but not ours.

Great job as always. As for the celery: its not salt its natural MSG. Not a joke; plants contain glutamate, most need to be dried to get freed up (like tomatoes contain a ton) but in celery and celeriac have it free in the fresh plant.

Save those beet greens for stir-fries! Absolutely Fabulous! And red beet greens will make your stir fry gently pink - so their really nutritious.

Good job guys. I was excited yesterday I harvested my first salad from my window garden. That’s what I call my recycled carnation tubs I planted lettuce and micro greens in. They fit perfectly on my window sill. 🪟🪴👩🏼‍🌾

So I guess if you have a soil with built up salts because your water or fertilizers you can use celery to soak the excess salt

With the salty celery; dry it and then grind it down and use it as a seasoning instead of bought celery salt etc.

This was the perfect opportunity to demonstrate the thickest leather gloves your sponsors could maybe supply in future. Watching Jaques be jabbed was painful. A chef taught me to soak brassics in salt water a couple or few hours then rinse to flush out any bugs from hard to reach places. Your cabbage worms reminded me of that. I have never grown salty celery.

I recently watched a video where Jacques mentioned adding boric acid to the soil if there is a lack of growth in root vegetables. Can we please get more information about that?
